Red face Left turn whining noise

Hi guys, I started noticing this problem and I need your expert help.
The noise comes on only when I turn left and I give it gas. If I just cruse with my foot off the gas (on the same turn) no noise.
It sounds like the noise is coming from the right side however, even though I am turning left. Perfectly fine if I turn right, no problems at all.
So, I am thinking it can't be a bearing or tire, it has to be something that is related with "what drives that wheel" (front right).
Of course, I may be wrong. I need your help.
Any input is much appreciated.

Thanks

Vehicle is a WK 2007 QDII, Limited, Hemi

Re: Left turn whining noise

Is it making a humming noise? When you turn left you are loading the right tire. First thing I would do it jack the right tire off the ground and put your hands at the 12 and 6 o'clock and see if it moves up and down. Then try the 3 and 9 o'clock. If you feel play then it is the wheel bearing.

Also when is the last time your differential and transfer case fluids were changed?

Re: Left turn whining noise

viking757, thanks for your reply.

To better explain the sound, I guess is more of a subtle, muffled wawa whine than anything else. I have owned a WJ with Quadra Drive before this one and I know what the whine/grind sound is like when it needs fluid changed in the diff. I've been there, done that. This is a much less obvious sound and only appears when I'm on the gas while turning left (only). Could be it a CV joint or a control arm?
I will try to see if it has any play in the wheel, but the fact that it only makes the noise when I give it gas and not when I don't that sort of rules out the bearing, doesn't it?
Also, I didn't mention this on my original post, but usually for it to make the noise I'd have to turn left at a 90 degrees turn or so, and do about 30+ MPH. If I go slower, no noise. Just to give an example, it would be turning left onto another road, would most of the time make it happen if I'm on the gas. If I just cruise through it, no problem.
I only have 50K miles on the Jeep and I am the second owner, so I guess the fluids have not been changed since it was new. I have high doubts that this Jeep had been abused or even taken off road ever. It's been pampered, and everything seems to be in tip-top shape. I also take good care of it, and don't ever abuse it, but of course that doesn't mean things would never go south...

Thank you guys!

Re: Left turn whining noise

No problem that's why we are here

I would check the bearing first. It makes sense if the noise is apparent if you are on the throttle through the turn as this is loading the outside front wheel more than if coasting through(Also the faster you are going the more force on that wheel etc..). I would say your wheel bearing is in the early stages of going out. Check the condition of the CV boots but generally a bad CV will make a clicking noise in tight turns.

Re: Left turn whining noise

Please keep us updated because I have this exact same issue too - pretty much have noticed it since 20K miles or so. Took it to the dealer to have them check it out but we could not recreate it. I am wondering if it is because I had a passenger - I usually notice it when riding alone, but then again that is typically the only time I am driving with the windows down.

Re: Left turn whining noise

Guys, there is no play in the right front wheel whatsoever.
This morning I drove in to work and noticed how it made the sound on one particular case, and I said, on my next turn I am going to really gun it and see if it makes it worse or not?
To my surprise, it didn't make the sound. I am very sure I should've heard it if it did. My Jeep is absolutely stock except HIDs and LED's on my tails.
I am back to square one. I will however try to get a sound recording of the sound and post it for you guys to hear it.
On another note, it needs new front rotors and pads. I was thinking to go with a new set (front and rear) of those drilled/slotted rotors and ceramic pads. I heard nothing but good reviews on them.
What do you guys think?
Again, thank you all for your time and input!

Odd...Hopefully someone else can chime in...

I went through R1concepts for pads and rotors. Got a great deal and couldn't be more pleased.

Re: Left turn whining noise

Guys, I just had a new set of rotors and pads installed on all 4. Is it possible that the noise issue may have been related with the brake on that side? I think the noise issue went away.
I need to drive it more and see, but I am pretty sure I couldn't hear it anymore...
Any thoughts?

Re: Left turn whining noise

Could be as simple as low power steering fluid. I have to top off on occasion.
