Looking for replacement OE parts

I just bought a 2005 Grand Cherokee Limited with the 5.7 yesterday and I was wondering what is a good place to buy replacement stock parts for it? To be more specific I am looking to replace the insulation on the underside of my hood (It has rubbed up against the strut tower brace and is looking pretty bad). I also need to find a new strut that holds my hood open. The one on there doesn't work anymore. I am also wondering if there should be more than 1 hood lift on my WK since there is only one on there now. Ive looked everywhere but cant seem to find what I am looking for. Hopefully some of you more experienced Jeep guys/gals can help out this rookie . Thank You!

Re: Looking for replacement OE parts

You're not missing anything, there should be only 1 hood-prop.

You can pick the prop up from the dealer, as it is not that expensive (I think mine was about $16). Part #55394472AA

The insulation for the hood is part #55196983AD. I think it's about $70 at the dealership, but googling that part number should get you some online listings - I would expect to pay around $50 shipped.

Something like:

Re: Looking for replacement OE parts

Thank you! Those are exactly what I'm looking for. I am going to stop by the dealership tomorrow and see what they can do. If not I will definately order online. Thank you again.

Re: Looking for replacement OE parts

Autozone or similar store should carry the hood lift support, and rockauto.com is a good site or misc parts

Re: Looking for replacement OE parts

Went to the dealership today and bought the hood strut ($24) but decided to pass on them getting me the hood silencer since the wanted about $160 for it and the plastic pins for it. Ill probably just order it online. At least now I can actually work under my hood now

Re: Looking for replacement OE parts

I was able to get my strut for about $13. This is how the dealerships has received the title, stealership.

Re: Looking for replacement OE parts

Yes, I was always quite embarassed when I had to clamp a pair of vice grips onto the hood prop to work on the vehicle!

I'm surpised they wanted so much for the insulation - but there are plenty of options online.

Those clips can also be picked up for a couple bucks either online or at most auto parts stores.

moparpartsamerica.com

Gives about 30% off list. I was even able to ask them to check on shipping a few things and they have gone out of their way to repackage and make sure I only pay the actual shipping.

I have had SOME luck with printing my cart from the online and getting the local Stealer to match the price.....or close enough to just buy local.

Re: Looking for replacement OE parts

Okay now my next thing is that I want to do a complete tune up since I'm not sure what the previous owner has done. Can I get all the fluids and parts needed to get this done from those sights? I took a look but wasn't having any luck. I'd like to stick with all the OEM spec stuff since I don't know what works and what doesn't. I'd like to avoid going to the stealership if I can. Also, would an autoparts store like oreillys carry what I would need?

Re: Looking for replacement OE parts

I typically just pick up fluids from the dealership - with the exception of oil and filter - I just pick up whatever synthetic is on sale at the auto parts store -brake fluid, and axle fluid.

The appropriate powersteering fluid and transfer case fluid (if you have QDII or QTII) are only available at the dealer (as far as I know). If you have QDII you also require a limited slip additive that is only available at the dealership (one bottle per axle)...some people have reported finding gear oil with the additive in it already that works, others have had problems going this route - I just go with what I know works.

You can buy the transmission fluid from an auto parts store (Any ATF+4 will do), and the gear oil (75W140 API-GL5). Be prepared to pay quite a bit for the gear oil, that stuff is not cheap!

As for the coolant, it's another fluid that people debate about. Chrysler uses the 100,000 mile HOAT coolant, and states that it can not be mixed with any other coolant (HOAT or otherwise). I just stick to this, as I know it will work. It is important that the coolant be mixed with distilled water and not used straight out of the jug. The proportion of water to coolant depends on the climate - typically a 50/50 mix is used, but this may not provide enough resistance to freezing for a Minnesota winter, as this has a freeze point of about -35F. When I lived in Winnipeg, I used a 64% anti-freeze 36% water mixture, which tested good below -40.

It's a considerable expense to get all of the fluids swapped, but I certainly would recommend it since you are unsure of the vehicles previous history

Re: Looking for replacement OE parts

The only fluids I purchased at the dealer was the ATF and the coolant. I used mobil 1 75-140 for the diffs. I havent swapped out the power steering fluid yet, but I have heard you should get it from the dealer as well.
