Losing Coolant

Hey Everyone,
got a 2005 WK here with 137,000 miles on it. I keep having to top off my coolant about twice a week and cannot seem to find where i'm losing coolant. I have had the engine pressure tested and holds pressure fine, engine block dye test done and nothing found... yet i keep losing coolant. I keep an active eye on the "drippings" under the car and nothing seems to be coming up... HELP!!!!!!

Re: Losing Coolant

Heater core ??
Sometimes you are able to smell it inside, on high heat setting with the fan on low.
Have the same issue on my 97 Ram Cummins, for years now, to much of a headache to change the core.
Very minor leak and you can smell it on occasion and over time leaves a film on the inside of windshield..

Good luck.

Re: Losing Coolant

How would I go about checking the Heater Core? I would also like to note that whenever I start my car it sounds like water is gushing back and forth right behind the dash. it's more noticeable the colder that it is out when i start it.

Re: Losing Coolant

Make sure to replace your radiator cap. At 115k, I just had to replace mine last week. It was doing the HEMI "burp" and causing me to lose a bunch of coolant and making a mess everywhere. OEM makes the best replacement cap, new design and all.

Re: Losing Coolant

Check the thermostat, mine was losing coolant mysteriously too. The gasket on mine went bad and I replaced it just a few minutes ago.

Re: Losing Coolant

Can you see your water pump ? look around it and see if you can see if it has red crusty deposits around it. the pump seals might be getting ready to go. Just a thought

Have a look under the carpet at the footwell area, when the heater core leaks you will find it wet overthere. The gushing sound behind the dash could be caused by air bubbles in the heater core or hoses.

Re: Losing Coolant

I had this problem last winter. Definately check the passenger floor carpet. Another way would be to reach your hand behind where the center console dash plastic meets the carpet on the passenger side footwell. Mine was dripping pretty good so it didnt take long to feel the hot coolant all over behind the carpet.

Re: Losing Coolant

Check hoses for leaks and also overflow coolant tank for leaks.

Re: Losing Coolant

I kept losing fluid, but not quite as often. Saw a weep off the front of the engine. Thought it was the dreaded water pump failure, but traced it to the thermostat housing. Gasket failed & needed replaced. Piece of cake. No RTV or anything. Took a few minutes & a Boston Lager. Good Luck.

Re: Losing Coolant

I just fixed this issue on mine last week. Turns out, the hoses to and from the radiator were bad. Replaced those along with the water pump and thermostat and everything runs perfectly now. My coolant has stayed full since
