Manual mode

So my wife had a run in with accidental down shifting and freaked out. I was busy working and could not answer the phone calls. So since she would rather make things harder instead of learning I now am forced to ask. Is there any way to disable the manual mode on an 05 4.7L wk QTII 545RFE? Either a dis able switch or something done with a scan tool/tunder?

Not that I have heard of before - plus, you wouldn't be able to select a lower gear if required.

I'm sure there are a few mechanical solutions (preventing the shifter from moving horizontally when in 'D'), and perhaps even a re-programming or electrical work that can be done - but I think they would all be kind of overkill, IMO.

I have done many things to appease the wife's peculiar driving habits, so understand where you're coming from! Unfortunately, I think in this case you are just going to have to tell her to suck it up.

I think I'd try blocking the (D -) gate so she couldn't move the lever to the left when in Drive. Looks like you could put something on the underside so it wouldn't show too much on top and look crappy. Let us know what you end up doing.

That's what I'm going to try an do. I'm going to do some experimenting and see if I can block the down shift side. Auto parts stores sell this stuff that's really cool. Its called quck steel. Its a 2 part putty that you knead/mix together. It stays pliable for enough time to work with it but once hard its hard as a rock. Its can be sanded, tapped, ground finished etc. I think I'm going to try using some of that to do what I need. I've personally use trhe stuff to fix broken mounts for a powersteering pump, as well as made a nut and threaded and ground it. Ill figure something out. Maybe if. I can find a skematic I can wire in a hidden toggle switch some where in the future.

Sounds like that'll work.
