MDS Hemi

I bought a 2006 WK Limited with a 5.7 Hemi and wondered if it has MDS. Do all Hemis have this? I don't have a light or any knowledge of whether it is working or doesn't have this feature.

Re: MDS Hemi

Yes, all of the WK's with the HEMI have MDS. The "eco" light doesn't exist on the 05-06, so if you want one, you'll have to add one by manually tapping the MDS sensor wire under the hood. Many of us have done it and it's an easy mod.

Need to clarify this...this light has nothing to do with ECO mode. ECO mode was new for MY14 and is where the tranny upshifts early, downshifts late and adjusts how MDS behaves for even better fuel economy (hotly debated claim) than just MDS mode.

I know you guys are just talking an MDS indicator light but felt it worth mentioning that this is not ECO mode. There is no retrofit flash for getting ECO mode on pre-MY14 that I am aware of.

Re: MDS Hemi

Here's the instructions. They're for the LX vehicles (Chrysler 300C, Charger, Magnum), but the wiring is the same. I came up with this back in 05 over on the LX forums (under my screen name, magnuman), and when I bought my WK, it was the first mod. I did. That's when I discovered the wiring is the same.

Installation of a MDS ON Indicator Light

Here's a pix of where I mounted my light on the WK. I've since moved the light on the LX to about the same place.

Re: MDS Hemi

Thanks to the MDS experts, the folks on this site are the best! I don't know if I'll install the light but good to know I have MDS. I am also running the oil that was in it when I bought it and plan on going full synth 5W-20 in a month or so. I still can't hear the MDS working but I am all stock exhaust and it sounds like I might not hear it with the stock resonator.

If the PO didn't run the correct weight oil, the MDS won't work properly. When I bought mine the DEALER said they did me a favor and changed the oil. Only problem was, they put in bulk 10W-30. I have another MDS Hemi, so I knew how it should work, and the Jeep MDS barely worked at all. I changed it after about 200 miles, and all was back to normal. A good synthetic seems to work better than a dino. oil too.

Yes, you're right, you probably may not notice MDS activity with the stock exhaust.
