MK dual heater problem

I have a 2006 WK Limited with dual control Heat A/C. When I need A/C, the passenger side gets ambient air while the driver's side gets cooled air. Air is correctly directed but has no A/C on passenger side. I searched and found the blend door problems in the WJ (I own one of those as well) but nothing on the WK. I also found the calibration procedure (Thanks Brianc500) but it didn't work. Is there a calibration procedure for the 2006? How do I know if it is a blend door problem or a control problem?

Re: MK dual heater problem

There are certainly blend door problems on WK, and that could be the cause.

There are also some people who state that when the system is low on refrigerant, it affects the passenger side first. Is your AC compressor cycling normally? This could be a sign of low refrigerant.

Recalibration procedures for the automatic climate control system require a scantool capable of invoking the procedure (like a StarScan)

MK dual heater problem

I took the Jeep in to a repair guy and he said the blend doors were not stuck but he would have to disassemble the heater box to find the problem. I took it home and drove it on a trip in cool weather and without the A/C, both passenger and driver sides were the same. I think this rules out blend doors so I'm having the refrigerant checked and will report back.

Re: MK dual heater problem

Finally took it and had a mechanic who brought refrigerant up to spec. It seems to work now. The key is to run the heater on manual vent with both temp knobs on cool (blue dot, ccw) without A/C and compare temps in vents. If they are the same, the blend doors are closing and the problem is refrigeration system.
