mph reset

Ok this may sound stupid and a simple thing that I have over looked. I have a 2008 Grand Cherokee and have been trying to figure out how to reset the average mph. I can reset the trip meter A & B, but when I go to reset the mph it says reset but stays at the mileage from the previous tank. Any help would be great.

I had the same experience and thought something was wrong. The owners manual say, "Then, the history information will be erased, and the averaging will continue from the last fuel average reading before the reset." Not sure exactly what that means, but it does display the last number before the reset. Maybe it begins to average over a smaller sample, but it certainly isn't clear. My Olds Aurora would stay blank for a short time until it had enough of a sample to display a number, which is the way I would prefer it to work.
