My 07 wk dash goes crazy at times, anyone else have this problem?

I purchased an 07 wk April 2014. Everything was fine until around January of this year when I noticed a chime and all the dash light flashed for a split second. It happened so fast that I paid it little attention and continued on my way into work. This continued to happen at randomly, days & weeks apart. Since it didn't affect the steering or the ability to drive I continue to pay it no mind.

In March of this year I decided to upgrade my head unit to a Pioneer AVH-X3600BHS and audiovox backup cam. Since the install, everything has become majorly worst and it's really starting to drive me crazy because it happens so random.

So now not only do I get the random chime & flashing dash, the speedometer and tachometer go haywire. Like I said it's so random. I could be driving, then all of a sudden it starts. Then when I park and turn the car off, the radio stops playing but it stays powered on, even after i remove the key and open the door. after a few minutes when I star it back up it, the radio won't turn on and the speedometer and tachometer still are going haywire. Then all of a sudden, while driving it magically turns on and the speedometer got back to normal.

The guy that installed it thought that maybe the hire harness was bad, so he swapped it out for a different brand but it didn't make a difference because it kept happening. After determining that the harness wasn't the problem I had him put in another harness like the first one that was in, because it put out better sound.

Since it hasn't affected the way the jeep drives, I'm trying my best to stay away from the dealership. But after months of this, it's really driving me nuts and I'm about ready to give in. Can anybody please give me any advice on what I can to fix this that is DIY friendly.

Usually when this type of problem appears, the Jeep is trying to tell you that the battery is on its way out.........

If that doesn't fix it, next I would look at the multifunction switch - stalk on the left side of the steering column. It may be slowing going out and was just a coincidence that it got worse after the radio install.

Re: My 07 wk dash goes crazy at times, anyone else have this problem?

I have an 08 JGC Limited, 5.7 and about 40000 miles i made a turn and the wipers came on and i thought it was the reflection from the sun but then i looked at the dash and everything went crazy, speedometer went to zero, tach to zero, left turn signal stuck on, radio went off, so i drove to a Jeep dealer near where i was and they said they had no time right then. I called my dealer and they said come in, they worked on the car 2 days and replaced the computer behind the battery. Luckily i had the lifetime warranty and it cost me $100. They asked me if i wash the engine because water can mess things up. I do occasionally but I'm careful where i spray, so water can do a lot of damage to electronics. The Jeep now has 177000 miles and have had any problems like that since.

My '07 was doing that for a while, gradually getting worse.. ignition switch replacement fixed it.
