Neutral drop

Ok so heres what happened. I put the car in drive, and the evic said drive. The shifter was definitely in drive. I pushed the gas and it just revved as if it was in neutral. Then suddenly at about 3k it engaged and did something very similar to a neutral drop. What happened? Isn't this really bad for the tranny?

that sounds like the torque convertor didn't engage until you hit 3k, im guessing there wasn't enough line pressure until it hit 3k and suddenly lock up

Sounds like the torque converter drained out. There was a tsb for this exact issue involving the spin on filter in the transmission.

First guess would be your filter seal has split or it has become dislodged.

When was the last time the tranny was serviced and the pan dropped?

Re: Neutral drop

Yeah the truck was cold. The dealer said they did a tranny service when I bout it about 6 months back. Fluid is clean and full. I am also having a transmission overtemp issue which comes up randomly seperate but might be related. Is this going to do as much damage as a neutral drop would? From my understanding a neutral drop will almost kill your tranny if not seriously injure it.
