No ac on passenger side

Hi im new to being a jeep owner. I have an 06 cherokee and having problems with the ac. It works but only blows out the driver side vents. No ac in the back or passenger side vents. It's not a dual climate,it's a single manual climate set up. Any ideas on what the problem is?

Re: No ac on passenger side

I just had this problem on my dual control and it was low refrigerant. It seems when the refrigerant gets low, the passenger side of the evaporator doesn't cool even when the drivers side does. You can check after driving with A/C on for a while and see if the large tube (return line) coming from the firewall is cold or just warm. If it is warm, you are low on refrigerant.
It also could be bad blend doors. To check these, run the blower on cold vent without A/C and compare temps. If they are the same, the blend doors are working, if one side is hotter than the other, the blend doors are broken. Hope it is not that...

Sounds like refrigerant is low, as stated above. Since you do not have the dual climate, it's not going to be a blend door issue across sides.

Check the system for leaks and recharge.

Re: No ac on passenger side

When you say it doesn't blow out the passenger side, does that mean no air or it is blowing air, just warm air? If it is no air at all, then the directional door is not functioning and could be broken doors or some sort of control problem. If it is blowing air but the air is warm, then it is probably the blend doors or their controls. Which system, dual or single control?

Re: No ac on passenger side

It blows out warm air. The actuator near the heater core is 1 year old. And it's a single control. The back air also blows hot there are no controls for it either just goes off of the main controls up front.

Re: No ac on passenger side

Open the hood and be sure the large refrigeration pipe coming from the evaporator under the dash is cold when the A/C is running. If it is cold, the refrigeration system is working. If it is warm, you may have a blockage in your evaporator core (possibly a broken orifice tube). If it is cold, the problem is in the blend door. I think you have 2 blend doors even in the single unit. you can take the actuator off and move the doors manually to see if they move but you can't see them.

Re: No ac on passenger side

The actuator is not working correctly and it needed another good charge up. I pretty sure I have a small leak somewhere but honestly new job with new demands don't know when I will have the time to get it fixed
