So I installed the new relays sent from Xenon depot. I put flame retardant tubing on the entire relay for both of them. I also ran the wires behind the battery so the wires would not be subject to as much heat from the engine. I also put heat sheath on top of the flame retardant tubing for the part of the relay running up the back of the battery just in case it was a heat issue making the lights flicker. Checked all my connections and even rewired the pigtail to the head light just to make sure. The ground is good and secure. But today the light started flickering again! Any ideas, thoughts?

Re: Oem HID Projector headlight issues

You could always switch the bulbs. See if the same bulb flickers or if the same ballast flickers. Should help isolate the problem if it's related to the bulb or ballast. Obviously if the same side flickers it's the ballast or if the opposite side flickers it the bulb.

x2 this should give you an answer. Id bet on faulty bulb or ballast, but If this doesn't do it then maybe you are running too small of a fuse? What amp fuse do you have, what does it call for? That could cause it to melt and then would create the flickering issue as the contacts begin to melt possibly?

Had something similar happen with my audio system power wire when I had an older tube style fuse. The contacts would melt from the power draw and the stereo would cut in and out here and there and then I went to bigger blade style the problem disappeared.

Here's an update... I didn't have time to switch out the bulbs last night but while running errands the light did not flicker once. But this morning it did it again. And actually went out at one point. Now this morning it was drizzling and the ground was def wet enough were your car got sprayed on. If I'm noticing this more in the morning you would thing the weather or moisture is affecting it some how. When I got to work I could see the beams on a car so I wanted to see if I could manually make it flicker. I pulled up on the window switches and it made them flicker each time I did it. I couldn't tell if both or just one flickered though. Last night when I tried pulling up on switches lights stayed on. All my connections are good and tight. Could moisture be getting into the ground? Any thoughts?

Yea it's def gotta be something.

I spent about 4 hours the other day when I put the new relays in to makes sure nothing would be touching any connections, no metal on metal.

I'm gonna swap the bulbs tonight. What bothers me is that this morning I could make the light or lights flicker just by pulling up on the window switches.

Re: Oem HID Projector headlight issues

wow......I dont even know where to begin...LOL. I do know this...I thought one of mine was flickering on a rainy evening and it was actually water droplets running down the lens when I got out to look at the lamps.

Hahaha... Yea it thought it was that too at first, but I was behind a pick up truck and could see it going on and off against their tailgate.

I'm leaning towards that too Scott. If I do need to replace a ballast after I try swapping bulbs. Can I use any 55w ballast? Should I get a factory ballast? I'm assuming the wiring should be pretty simple.

Re: Oem HID Projector headlight issues

Update, I swapped the bulbs last night. I drove around for a while and no flickering. I tried to manually makeit flicker by having windows go up and down, turning on the heat & a/c, turning on rear defroster. And no flickering. This morning I thought it might have flickered once right as I was pulling out of parking spot but thought it could also have been a rain drops running down. Traffic was busy enough were someone was in front of me the whole ride and i could see the reflection in the car ahead. Like yesterday it was a light rain and roads were wet. When I pulled into my space at work i could see the beams reflection so I tried pulling up on the window switch again like yesterday and the light filckered each time I did it. So know my question is.....
Is this a ballast issue? If so does anyone know where I can find a factory replacement? I found one from ddm tuning below.
Or could it mean moisture is getting in somewhere? I dont see where it could as I explain previously that everything is covered up.
Thoughts?
