Oil Leak - Oil Pan Possibly?

Hi All,

This week I crawled under the Jeep in the frigged cold to change the oil. There was oil on the front diff. It had let go of two fresh drops on the floor of my garage. I grabbed a light and it looks like it is possibly coming from the oil pan gasket area.

Hard to tell as it is tight in there!

Are there any other known issues? Is this an oil pan that requires the engine to be pulled to have the gasket changed?

97k miles, 4.7L

Thanks in advance!

You should be able to tell the difference between motor oil and 75W140 gear oil via smell, even if both fluids are brand new...anyone that has ever been fortunate enough to get gear oil covering their hands will never mistake the two!

I haven't heard of that being a known spot for the oil pan to leak.

To replace the pan, the engine does have to be lifted off the frame, but you don't have to take off the intake manifold or drop the front axle like you have to with the hemis...
