Oil light on, off, on, off, ding, ding, ding, ding

I feel like Hector Salamanca is in the passenger seat! It's driving me nuts.

Started yesterday, every time I come to a stop "ding" red oil light comes on. If I give gas to start moving it goes off. Come to a stop, "ding" on. Begin driving... well, you get the point.

It's a 2005 5.7 with 122222 miles on it. I checked the oil and it's on the lower end of the "safe" zone. Drives without hesitation and doesn't sound like anything is really wrong.

I did a brief search and found talk about some oil sensor. Can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Just do an oil change and disconnect the ground cable for 20 mins, and see what happens. If you dont want to do an oil change just disconnect ground for 20 mins.

Sounds like the oil pressure switch - but worth to have it checked out.

Ordered an Oil Pressure Switch from RockAuto. I'll post an update when I throw it in.

I know this post is old but my Jeep is doing the same thing. Just like yours but 10k less miles. Did the part your order fix it, or was it something else?

Donīt know if you will get an answer from the thread starter, but the oil pressure switch is a well known item to fail and would be the first on my list to change.

Last time my oil light came on like that, my engine oil filter was loose. Just saying?

It was doing this a week ago, changed the oil since then(along with the filter obviously) and it still does it.

Get in that beast and run a diagnostic to see if any codes come up. Do you have a scanner available? Lets just hope its a sensor and not oil pump going out.

I did the key trick to run codes and the only one that came on was for the smart key or whatever it's called

Same issues as on my 03 grand cherokee and my Oldsmobile when i had it. Replace the oil pressure sensor/sender if you have not already. Its the culprit 9 times outta ten.
