ok tranny question

so im heading to el cajon to pick up this girl im taking to dinner and I hear a chime and see the heads up display saying (TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP)....what does this mean? do I need to add fluid? id like to work on it tomorrow but I need to figure out what that means and I went and bought 2 qts of ATF+4. any help will be very helpful thank you all

Re: ok tranny question

It means the transmission fluid was too hot, or the sensor that reads the transmission fluid temperature isn't working properly. Simple as that.

Were you driving the vehicle hard? Was it hot outside? Did it happen straight away, or after driving a while? All of these things could help pinpoint whether the message was accurate or not.

Check fluid quality and level.

When was the last time you had it serviced? As transmission fluid gets older, its ability to dissipate heat is reduced.
