Outside temp calibration

I have an 05 wk and the outside temp seems to be off maybe 10 degrees at all times (parked in the shade ir direct sunlight). Is there a way to calibrate the system? Does anyone else have this issue?

Re: Outside temp calibration

Never noticed, but if you want to check out the sensor it's right behind the front girlle

Other than a visual inspection is there a way to check it to see if its bad?

Re: Outside temp calibration

From the service Manual:

SENSOR TEST
1. Turn the ignition switch to the Off position. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Disconnect the ambient temperature sensor harness connector.
2. Measure the resistance of the ambient temperature sensor. At - 40 C (- 40 F), the sensor resistance is 336 kilohms. At 55 C (130 F), the sensor resistance is 2.488 kilohms. The sensor resistance should read between these two values. If OK, refer to Sensor Circuit Test in this group. If not OK, replace the inoperative ambient temperature sensor.
SENSOR CIRCUIT TEST
Refer to the appropriate wiring information for complete circuit schematic or connector pin-out information.
1. Turn the ignition switch to the Off position. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Disconnect the wire harness connectors from the ambient temperature sensor and the FCM.

WK OVERHEAD CONSOLE - SERVICE INFORMATION 8M - 29
2. Connect a jumper wire between the two terminals in the body half of the ambient temperature sensor harness
connector.
3. Check for continuity between the sensor return circuit and the ambient temperature sensor signal circuit cavities of the FCM harness connector. There should be continuity. If OK, go to Step 4. If not OK, repair the open sensor return circuit or ambient temperature sensor signal circuit to the ambient temperature sensor as required.
4. Check for continuity between the ambient temperature sensor signal circuit cavity of the FCM harness connector and a good ground. There should be no continuity. If OK, test the EVIC operation, (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/ OVERHEAD CONSOLE/ELECTRONIC VEHICLE INFO CENTER - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING). If not OK, repair the shorted ambient temperature sensor signal circuit as required.

Re: Outside temp calibration

Rather than start a new thread....

I have a 08 wk limited. My outside temp worked good until I removed the factory mirror on the windshield. I unplugged the harness to the autodim and highbeam detecting mirror. Every since the outside temp is off by 10 or more degrees...

I have no intention of putting the stock mirror back on, as it blocks my view of cross traffic and I'd rather see traffic than have an calibrated temp sensor. My question is, did the removal of my factory mirror cause the loss of accuracy or was it a coincidence? I read the FSM posted here, but I'm not sure if the tests for ambient temp sensor harness is the harness for the sensor by the bumper or the harness that plugged into the mirror?

Come to think of it, or do I need to run my ac/heat on auto settings, because around the same time I went to using manual settings for ac/heat?

Thanks

Re: Outside temp calibration

So to answer my questions, the temp sensor has nothing to do with the mirror or the inside sensors. The sensor is behind the grill and is very easy to remove and replace. I just replaced the sensor ($10 to $15 depending on where you buy it) and after driving around for the afternoon it reset and works great now. I have learned from other postings you need to drive for 5 min over 40 mph to get the sensor to update on the newer GC's, so I assume the WK1 is similar. My driving habits are mostly local, so I might not have been driving far enough or fast enough to update the sensor and it eventually got "stuck"? In any case I replaced it, it was cheap and it works now.
