Overheat fan in hyper drive

My radiator fan kicks on almost as soon as I turn my jeep on. I replaced the thermo about five months ago, radiator three months ago for a crack and was getting the xmsn over temp all the time that a new ecu fixed.

I'm not getting anymore codes or cautions just sounds like I'm going into hyper drive before I get out of the drive way... Any ideas?

I was thinking about changing out the water pump, but again I have no indications of actually over heating.

Re: Overheat fan in hyper drive

Which engine does your jeep have? Just to know if you have the electric fan, or hydraulic driven fan.

Re: Overheat fan in hyper drive

Your jeep has a hydraulic cooling fan setup. This fan idles at about 500 rpm as soon as you start the engine. If it runs at high speed, then it can be that a wrong sensor input is received. The inputs to control the fan solenoid are coming from the engine coolant temp sensor, the transmission temp sensor, the airconditioning pressure sensor and battery temp sensor. When the signal for the engine coolant is not received. The cooling fan will go automatically to high speed mode.

Wow. Not the route I would have thought to take. Thank you I guess I'll start looking at some of those sensors. If it isn't throwing a code though I would think it has to do with the wiring more than the sensor itself. Right ?

Re: Overheat fan in hyper drive

Could be wiring, could be a faulty sensor. Could eventually be a stuck hydraulic fan control solenoid or the module which controls the solenoid ( not sure on the WK which module does control it, but could be the PCM).
