Overland 3.0 Crd Poor Idle and misfiring

Hi All.

Just wondered if i could get some feedback that i am experiencing on my WK. Some backround- Its a 2007 3.0v6 CRD 95k miles and until now been very reliable.

I dont use this jeep much these days so its parked up in the garage. The last time i usd it i noticed whilst towing my caravan that the engine seem to idle roughly.

Anyway parked it up and now idle is rough but as soon as i get over 1000rpm its seems like its misfiring. At this point in time no codes where present. i drove teh car a very short distance and it was missing and jerking at low speeds. Then the ETC warning light came on. tow lines with a lightening bolt between the lines. Plugged in my reader and sure enough P0404 EGR problem. So cut a long story short, removed the EGR for an inspection and clean. To be honest it wasnt that bad. teh valve was seated correctly and it would move. So, i cleaned it anyway. Put it back in and, the same issue poor idle and even worse above 1000rpm. Then i thought i would unplug the EGR valve and try it. AND the fault was gone. Plugged it back in hey presto fault back again.

So everything points to the EGR valve but i am not convinced. There is a sensor, MAP and MAF that are telling the EGR what to do. If one of these sensors are telling the egr to open on idle its that sensor that may be faulty.

Just wondered if anyone else has experinecd this problem. Just so i can gain all that facts before i go and spend 465 on a New EGR.

Thanks in advance

I'm not an expert but I have had similar problems with my Diesel.
Do you hear any hissing sound from the engine when you accelerate?
Try looking at the turbo tube that runs from the Turbo to the Intercooler. For some reason I had a gasket (or O-ring) missing at one end of the tube. It's the end that connects to the turbo. I added an O-ring and problem was gone.

check that tube first (both ends)...it must be snug on otherwise you're not getting full boost and you're Jeep will experience hesitation and misfiring.

Not saying this is a contributing factor, but if you store the Jeep for a few months at a time, you could try some diesel formula Sta-Bil to keep the fuel from going sour.
