p1417 code MDS issue? need help!

I have a 2006 WK 5.7 hemi. wife complained that it was running bad so I ignored her as I always do when she sais her jeep is not running right. well this time she wasnt hearing things but it did go away for a day or so before she told me it was not even drivable. so we took it to a friend that read the codes and said it was an mds issue take it to the dealer. So I did. Well they confirmed the P1417 code and looked into it following the chrysler flow trouble shooting idiot proof chart. well the #7 MDS Solenoid checked out good and they are telling me that it is either a bad lifter or a dropped valve seat. if it is a bad lifter I would think that it would sound like a chatter box in there....if it dropped a valve seat then ...well I should need a new motor. BTW this thing starts right up and makes no ill noises at all, it does however run like chit like only one cylinder is missing. SO the flow chart says to check the solenoid if that is good then it is a bad lifter or a clogged oil passage. I would think that if the lifter was bad I could do a compression test to verify this. If it is an oil passage does the head nead to come off to clean the passage? I was told I am looking at $1700 to pull the heads and put new lifters in this thing. I searched google and here for anything similar and there were a few chrysler owners with similar probs on other forms but no resolution was stated. what should I do????? please help so athat I dont get raped at the stealership

Re: p1417 code MDS issue? need help!

BTW was wondering if the dealership can disable the MDS or would I be stuck purchasing a programmer to do so?

Run it in 5th gear or use trailer tow button. That will lock out MDS.
