My WK has had a smell lately that resembles burning oil smell. I looked underneath and could see some drips on the rear part of the skid plate under the engine. I wiped it with my finger and cannot tell what fluid it is. I suspect the fluid is getting blown back and getting on the exhaust and causing the smell. I do not know.

It does not appear to be trans fluid ( no red tint) but it seems to not be as thick as oil and is darker in appearance.

My oil level is fine (just had an oil change 3 weeks ago) and the trans dip stick says for dealer only.

What could be dripping? Could this be residual oil from the last oil change that pooled on top of the skid plate??

Could this be gear oil from the transfer case? How would I know if the transfer case is running low??

Possible seal problem between the transfer case and tranny?

Please help out if you can! I appreciate it! Hopefully I am worried over nothing

so its a leak then, have you tried putting down some papertowel that will help you determine the color better, then you can pull your skid plates and try to figure out where its coming from and if you want to spend the money to get it fixed. but start with the basics since you just had an oil change, check around oil filter and drain bolt, make sure the filter is snug, its not uncommon for the old oring from the dirty filter to stick to the engine block, and not realize it then put the new filter back on right over top of it

Re: Please help! Leak from underneath. 2006 WK 3.7-Solved!!

Problem solved.

I took it to the shop and they called me back, informing me that the oil pan rusted out, hence the leak.

I'm too busy to wrench on it right now, so I ok'd them to do the work.

They are charging me $500 for a new pan, gasket kit, oil change (synthetic) and labor. Does this sound about right?
