Re: popping noise? sway bar? links?

I think I found the problem! I have a front axle/diff isolator mount bad. Bushing is cracked in half. Top one of course the most difficult to change out. Picked it up from dealer for about $45. I'll change it as soon as I get time.

Differential pinion mount/bushing replacement

Re: popping noise? sway bar? links?

I will chime in here only because I had a similar popping noise just a few days after purchasing my WK in Januray. It was a quick pop, almost like something was catching, then suddenly coming loose, or sometimes even sounded like a piece of metal dangling and once in while getting hit by the tire and maing a popping/smacking noise. Mine ended up being the parking brake shoe exploded inside the housing. May not be anything like what your describing, but its easy to diagnose. Get up to a decent speed, 40-50, and very gently pull up on the ebrake, I was able to perfectly re-create my popping noise by doing this, had the ebrake assembly replaced, only $125 including labor, and was on my way. Just figured Id throw it out there.

This sounds like it has potential to be my fix. I will check into things and report back asap. Thanks for the info

I've actually had what you described already and fixed that issue so i know thats not it. With my e-brake issue the pad had broken off and yeah sounded like I was dragging a piece of metal from underneath my engine.
Damn jeeps and their noises.

Re: popping noise? sway bar? links?

I also went in for service while i was experiencing the pop. The shop guys said its the sway but wanted more money to investigate. Everything with the sway seems fine and tight under all of my inspections. During this service they tell me the front diff mount is cracked and replace the isolator. In the back of my mind the noise got worse after service, but no way i can prove that. Did they screw me and change an isolator and leave a bad bushing, or not change anything at all? Seemed fishy then and still somewhat does, but I'd like to know once and for all what this noise is.

Re: popping noise? sway bar? links?

I just changed upper front diff mount/ isolator and I still have the popping noise. I'm so tired hearing the pop. I don't know what else to check or what it could be. I was so sure this was gonna cure the problem, but its still there. It has to be something in the steering.

Re: popping noise? sway bar? links?

I dont have a pic ,& my jeep's not here to get one, but there are "clips"on the outside of the sway bushings -( look like big E-clips ) I knocked mine closer to the bushing and that stopped mine. use a big open end wrench, or cresent set it against the clip and hit with a hammer

Note: Not responsable for anyone hitting anything other then as described

Glad I'm not the only one with this issue...I TRY to ignore it, or drive with the windows up so I don't hear it...

I got it too, guys. Part of owning a Jeep!! Many bushings go out and go out quickly! I'm sure if I changed all my bushings I'd still have some popping n clicking!
