Re: power steering pump noise

You might have some air in the line - try what "MrTosh" suggests in his post: leave the cap off and turn the steering 20 times....etc...hopefully that will help

Re: power steering pump noise

I'm currently experiencing an even worst issue ...
I've repaired the power steering oil cooler because it was leaking (I cracked it after removing it to clean up the front end ... went to see a radiator welder to fix it and he manage to weld it succefully) After putting everything in place ... No hydraulic fan and therefore no steering at all.

I then thought something was clogging the system but I flushed everything twice ... replaced the pump, the fan and yep even replaced the rack pinon. When I did replace the fan everything was working but stopped after 10 minutes of joy

Is there a check valve, a circuit somewhere or am I missing something ... I suspect that the current fan (even if new) could be my problem ?

Re: power steering pump noise

So would this require me to lift the front end up in order to turn the wheel with the car off?

Re: power steering pump noise

The pump probably died from your leaking hose. I changed my pump for the same reason. It's fairly easy to change and pretty cheap.

Definetly. Easiest way to do it is to jack the front end with a 3ton (metric) jack using the xenter of the front beam as jacking point.

Re: power steering pump noise

You could also use 2 pieces of sheetmetal, with some grease in between, under both front wheels. Each piece around 30x30 cm will do. When you turn the wheel, the grease in between the 2 pieces will give them a low resistance and let them move freely, preventing any wear to the tires.
