Pulsating rear brakes

my 2010 Grand Cherokee Limited with a 5.7 Hemi's rear brakes have been pulsating slowing down from high speed with slight brake application. I changed the rotors and the problem still exists. Low speed stops are normal with no pulsating (none that I can feel). I have not checked for lateral run-out yet. Could a bad caliper cause the same problem?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Re: Pulsating rear brakes

Do you feel the pulsation in the brake pedal? It could be the ABS which starts pulsing, to prevent a wheel lock. If one caliper is dragging, it could maybe cause that wheel to lock up sooner. Did you feel both sides wheels if one (or even both) are hot?
Not sure on the WK how the electronic brake distribution works. A failure in that system could cause too much pressure to the rear wheels, causing them to lock, which the ABS will prevent by pulsing the pressure to the rear wheels.

Re: Pulsating rear brakes

No.......I don't feel it in the brake pedal and I am pretty sure it's coming from the left rear wheel. I have not checked the heat in each wheel, but I will. The New rotors were fine for a few K miles, then slowly the pulsating returned to the condition of why they were replaced. I don't use this Jeep for local driving because I also have a 2004 Grand Cherokee Limited that is used mainly for that purpose. The 2010 is used mainly on the highway. I will have to investigate further. Just wondering, is there a way to nullify the abs just for testing purposes?

Re: Pulsating rear brakes

If in the event I may need correction plates, does anyone now if they can be purchased locally here in NY (Advance or Autozone etc.) or do I have to order on line from NAPA or?

Re: Pulsating rear brakes

For a testdrive you can remove the ABS fuse. Not sure on the WK, but you can loose speedometer indication.

I'm wondering what made you think it's the rear brakes. Even for somebody like me who works on cars, that's hard to tell. I'm betting its your front brakes IF the pulsing is happening only during braking. Very common for warped rotors. Since you replaced the rear and the issue still exists I would swap the fronts.

Re: Pulsating rear brakes

I guess that is distinct possibility. The front rotors were installed 15K miles ago by the dealer under warranty. The rears were the originals. Like I mentioned previously, when the rears were installed by me there was no evidence of pulsating for 2K miles. Can those correction plates be purchase locally or? Thanks for you input.
