Re: 545RFE Tranny

So is this tranny a POS? I've not read too many stellar arguments for this tranny. In fact it seems to have constant issues. I'm currently getting a P0740 code and have been reading everything I can on the net regarding this tranny and the code. WK has only 81K on the clock. I have a 96 XJ and have never had any issues with the tranny and it has 200K on the clock. Any comments?

Re: 545RFE Tranny

That code refers to the TCC (torque converter clutch)

Check your input/output shaft sensor speeds on the trans as it may just be a bad sensor that is causing the issue.

Check the TCC solenoid and it's wiring.

Re: 545RFE Tranny

I know what the code is refering to. It is the torque converter clutch selenoid circuit. Is this something that I can repair or do I have to take it to a tranny shop and let them tell me I need a new gear box? The Jeep shifts fine, just won't do the lockup in OD.

Re: 545RFE Tranny

From my understanding these trannys are pretty solid, especially behind the 4.7L. Mine has been great to me for over 140k miles.

Re: 545RFE Tranny

This may or may not help but i had a 07 compass cvt with the same code plus p0741 after the dealer changed the cvt 2 times i suggested that it might be one of the following
a short in the wires, a bad electrical connection in the harness, or the computer.
I was right it was the connections in the harness. Have them chk it out before doing any work. I am assuming the car drives normally with the mil on and the codes set.
