reading OBD codes using ignition key

I used the technique of turning on and off the ignition key three times, then leaving it on to read the code flashes from the yellow engine icon on the dash on my 2005 grand cherokee. I received ten flashes in succession.

I know from other cars ( my corvette ) I can interprete the codes against a code list. I do not know the code list for a 2005 grand cherokee, does anyone know?

Re: reading OBD codes using ignition key

Thanks Scott, very helpful. It appears the code 9 I got first is for the control module.

Re: reading OBD codes using ignition key

Anyway to get the more descriptive 'soft codes'? I know the key jiggle will give the 'hard codes' but I know there are A and B codes or something like that.

Re: reading OBD codes using ignition key

stored (3 good trips since last failure), pending (2 trip fault that has not matured), and active codes (failing right now) should all be read with the key dance. The only thing that wont is codes in any module other than the PCM.
