rear hubs/axle leaks????

Both my rear hubs are leaking, more severe on the passenger side. Do the entire hub assemblies need to be replaced, or I have read about an o-ring that can be replaced?
Any advice or help would be much appreciated!!

passenger side, fluid is actually collecting inside the wheel:

driver side not as bad:

Re: rear hubs/axle leaks????

I have yet to personally deal with this, both of mine look better than your driver side one (just slight moisture ring on the backing plate but not wet). I have been told by a VERY respectable coworker that when they are leaking they are typically leaking from the hub itself.

IIRC to actually pull the hub through the backing plate you have to remove the oring, then to go together you set the oring on the shaft slip the hub through the backing plate and onto the axle then install the Oring onto the hub before you finally then seat the hub into the axle housing. All of that to say Im not 100% on the exact details but am 100% on the fact that there is an O-ring

That said I would suggest even if you just replace the hub that you get at least a couple of these from the dealer to have on hand. I dont know If I am just moving too fast or just not paying attention but when I overhauled my rear end and when I replaced my ebrake shoes I tore this O-ring each time... fortunatly I do as much work as I can at work so it was a simple trip across the lot to the parts department.

Re: rear hubs/axle leaks????

Searched around and I found this diagram of the rear axle/hub assembly.
It appears there is in fact an o-ring/axle seal between the axle tube and hub.
part number 52114079AA - found online multiple places for less than $5

Obviously I still need to inspect the condition of the hub itself, I am not having any noise from the hubs at this point, but thought I would post this up just for others...

Re: rear hubs/axle leaks????

Ok guys, I have decided to order a new hub for the passenger side for now.
I also want to order a new o-ring/seal, but searching parts online I have found two part numbers W0133-1796395 and 52114079AA, both number seem to refer to the same o-ring, but can someone confirm these are in fact the same/correct hub o-ring?
Thanks again!

The second looks to be a mopar number, the first is probably an aftermarket number fire the same thing.
