I have yet to personally deal with this, both of mine look better than your driver side one (just slight moisture ring on the backing plate but not wet). I have been told by a VERY respectable coworker that when they are leaking they are typically leaking from the hub itself.

IIRC to actually pull the hub through the backing plate you have to remove the oring, then to go together you set the oring on the shaft slip the hub through the backing plate and onto the axle then install the Oring onto the hub before you finally then seat the hub into the axle housing. All of that to say Im not 100% on the exact details but am 100% on the fact that there is an O-ring
That said I would suggest even if you just replace the hub that you get at least a couple of these from the dealer to have on hand. I dont know If I am just moving too fast or just not paying attention but when I overhauled my rear end and when I replaced my ebrake shoes I tore this O-ring each time... fortunatly I do as much work as I can at
work so it was a simple trip across the lot to the parts department.
