Rear main seal

I went home for the holidays and left the car parked in the garage. I came back today and there were about 2 nickel sized drops of trans fluid

We bought it used with 39xxx and I think it might be 41xxx. No extended warranty or anything. Thinking about trying to call the dealership and see what's up. I never noticed anything with daily driving

Anyone else with some help/advice

Re: Rear main seal

If its ATF it may be a seal in the bellhousing, there is a large seal plate that can leak around the oring or the center seal that seals against the torque converter on the 545RFE.

are you SURE its coming from the bellhousing? it could just as easily be a leaking transmission pan, shift shaft seal, transmission cooler lines.

Also, what type of dealer did you get it from with no warranty considering its so new and such low miles?

I may be corrected. My garage (on post military housing) has terrible lighting. I looked under there this morning and it seems to be looking more like you trans pan. We got it at a Lexus dealership. It's a 2010 limited

Problem is your leak may be nowhere near where you see the fluid gathering, it may be well to the front of that and being blown back to where it collects.

I recommend adding dye to the transmission before you take it in, as then the tech can use a UV and a darkened stall to trace forward to where it might be coming from.

RU sure it is transmission fluid, or possibly is it power steering, etc?

I'd check your fluids, particularly the transmission, as some dealers or just prior owners will overfill on purpose to make it look good just long enough to get rid of.

With your mileage, I would wonder if the previous owner or even Lexus did a transmission service. IIRC according to Chrysler's maintenance schedule the transmission service is at like 105k or something, it may have actually been 60k service with the sump filter and both filters at 120 or something... wkjeeps.com should have the maintenance schedule either way. But having worked at a dealer I know it was typically a service suggested (by the dealer) at 30k miles. If there has been a transmission service, it is VERY likely that the leak is the pan, some of the bolts are difficult to get to and easily cross threaded, if the surfaces are not clean it will leak, its easy to rub the RTV on the exhaust while fitting the pan up to the transmission and may have wiped a portion clean.... I would get it checked out, and if they pull the pan, my personal suggestion would be to have both filters replaced, and also ONLY replace the filters if you are going to use OEM filters.

Re: Rear main seal

finally picked it up yesterday. I remote started it before PT this morning and when I left it looked wet where I parked but I didnt bother to get back out (430am). I had my wife drop me off at work at 8 and I took a quick peak underneath..

sure enough it's still leaking; more now that it was before. I was extremely surprised and disappointed to say the least. My wife should be calling today to find out what the deal is.

Good news is I got a free tank of gas out of the loaner
