Rpms bouncing

Hey guys,

I have an 08 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.7 hemi in it. When it drives and idles, the rpms fluctuate a little bit. Maybe 200 rpms at a time. At idle you can notice it, and when it is driving, it'll do it as well. I'm not too sure as to why it would do that, and if it's going to be a problem or not..

Any ideas would be great as well.

P. S. It also makes an almost bit of a ticking sound when it is driving. Some where from the front end it does it.

Re: Rpms bouncing

The 5.7 uses an electronic throttle control, so there is no more idle air control motor. The TPS is also part of the throttle body. As long as the rpm bouncing doesn´t get worse, i would ignore it for now.
If you have a scanner which shows live data, you could monitor the TPS % and see if its a steady number while idling, or that it goes up and down with the rpm.

I don't have a scanner that can do that at all. It just seems weird that it would do that, even when it's just idling, they'll bounce up and down. I've never had a vehicle do that

Re: Rpms bouncing

If you have an android phone, you could buy a cheap bluetooth dongle from e-bay or amazon (an ELM 327 dongle) and download the free "Torque" app. You can monitor many live data and see/errase fault codes from the PCM with it.
