Service 4WD and no DTC codes?

My '06 is reporting 'Service 4WD system' in the EVIC display. I checked via OBD (torque & bluetooth) and using the ignition-switch-three-times. No DTCs.

The ABS light is lit, as is the traction control light. I've begun to suspect my clockspring as it'd been having some intermittent horn issues.

My question is it unusual for it to report Service 4WD without there being ANY other codes?

My 2010 GCL has the same issue. The transfer case had a internal major failure. It was replaced by dealer under The Chrysler drive train warranty.

Hello, it might be the battery. clean the terminals and try again.

I guess there are numerous recalls on this for updating the controllers. You might want to check your serial # to see if you need an update. This also could be an intermittent wheel speed sensor. That would trip both 4wd and anti lock brake lights.

There was a recall. Mine had the same issue. Dealer repaired at no cost to me.

my 08 has same issue was told major failure in clutches (by a reputable mechanic) as well. now shopping for a new case. Last time at dealer when it was checked they said mine was not covered by any recalls or TSB's.

Re: Service 4WD and no DTC codes?

so last week I had left front c/v joint/shaft replaced. they could not get shaft out of front diff. so they dropped front diff, pulled front cover to release snap ring. But now after the fact my 4wd works perfectly. mechanic said had trouble with the transfer case interface when he restarted the jeep. took several attempts, but now no problems. keeping my fingers crossed.

Did they at least replace the diff bushing while they had it down? There's a center one on the top of the front diff. Seems a shame to pay for that kind of labor and not get that done at the same time. You can tell if this needs replacing by there being some clunk in the driveline when changing from forward to reverse. The diff will move just enough to introduce a clunking.
