Has ANYONE figured out a permanent fix for this?

I've tried clearing the code. Works for about 24 hours.

I've tried pulling Fuse #25. Run it without the fuse... reinstall with engine running... shut off & restart engine. Lasts about the same.

I haven't swapped out the solenoid in the diff yet... is that even a permanent fix, or just a temporary one?

It's getting annoying.

So.. I guess not. I read on one of the threads here that installing a non-reflashed FDCM can work. There was also a July update to the N23 re-flash procedure (Service Bulletin 21-022-14 REV. A) that has shown some promise.

Has anyone tried any of these and found success?

I've heard mixed results. I called Chrysler's 800 number. They told me if the dealer traces the problem to the flash (which I think there is PLENTY of evidence it's the only source to the problem), then it's supposed to be done free of charge... including diagnostics.

We'll see.

Hi, just read ur update. I have a 4.7 v8 Sept 05 grand Cherokee with service 4wd system
Since the n23 recall. I take it they have come up with a new software update to fix the original recall update which has been causing this fault to loads of jeeps? They keep denying it to me??

Thanks Steve

I had to specifically ask for the TSB to be performed. It is not a recall & they consider it a "Software Update" even though it's the same software as the N23 recall... they just modified the procedure to perform the update to keep the DTC from being stored & shutting down the 4WD system. Mine is still working BTW.

I now have to deal with Chrysler to repay me the $170. It wasn't that much... but it's the principle. This was caused by the recall procedure... they should cover fixing it.

Hi, just rang jeep hq. They still unhelpful saying they no nothing about any faults just take it to a dealer because they will know more than them? Will not let me speak to a manager or their tec dept. I'm still the only one in the uk to complain about the N23 nightmare apparently....

I mentioned there's thousands over the Internet and I was told "anyone can put what they want on the Internet. Doesn't make it true". This from their customer care centre. Great ??

Yes they are.

My 05 Limited AWD 5.7L started throwing "service 4wd system" and "service ABS" lights/codes intermittently last year. They would clear on the next ignition cycle for days and weeks at a time, but got progressively worse. The main DTC (U1417) related to the front left wheel sensor, and the scanner also showed left rear wheel speed sensor codes. Had 130+k on the front hub bearings/speed sensors so decided to replace both. Additionally replaced the left rear speed sensor. I have not had a any IP lamps alarms or codes since in the 3 months since they were replaced. The transfer case TSB was already performed prior to replacing these bearings and sensors, but I never had any problems with shifting into or out of 4Low after the TSB.

I did the fuse removal trick and so far it has lasted a month and still working. Spoke to local dealer and jeep hq and told them I just wanted the new update and they said they will diagnose my truck and if it was that they would do it but if they found anything else I'd have to pay.

They got you all ways haven't they?? Not gona take it at mo as my 4wd low is still working. Don't trust any of them

Thanks Silver Limited. I haven't checked the code yet but I had a sneaking suspicion it might be related. My front passenger axle boot is torn and has thrown grease all up around there. Plus, we just got a ton of rain out here in CA. Wouldn't surprise me if one or the other (or combination of the two) is messing with the sensors. I'll report back.

Interesting that you mentioned the "rain" one of the things I noticed was both the IP lamps and throwing the code had a tendency to show up the day after rainy (heavy) days. I'm pretty convinced that putting in the new front hub bearings/sensors, and the left rear nailed my problem. I'll probably pick up the sensor for the right rear over the winter and install it to put the chance of it throwing codes to the wayside.

Then we can move onto the next WK screwup with the ignition switch recall that Chrysler still doesn't have the parts available. Curious how that's going to work out.
