Shifter interlock mechanism issue?

Does anyone's shifter interlock mechanism make a loud noise when putting it back to park? When I put mine from drive into park it makes a loud click noise. Just started today. Still shifts fine. Should I worry?

Re: Shifter interlock mechanism issue?

Now that you don´t have to be concentrated on your idle issue anymore, you are going to hear other noises now?
I´m not familiar with the WK shift lever mechanism, but there is most probably a BTSI mechanism on it. (brake transmission shifter/ignition interlock). It has a solenoid on the shifter and a cable mechanism going from the shifter to the ignition switch. Can it be that the solenoid is making noise?

What can I say, my jeep likes to annoy me lol....and possibly. I mean it only makes the noise when shifting back into park. It sometimes does it and sometimes doesn't. I mean I can live with this and not drive myself crazy trying to take it apart for a noise. Was just curious if it's important to look at if sounds like, from what your saying, the solenoid is starting to go bad.

Re: Shifter interlock mechanism issue?

If the solenoid goes bad, then you can take the shifter out of Park without depressing the brake pedal (ignition must be in on).
Does the noise stop when you apply or release the brake pedal or does it at least change the sound?

Then in that case the solenoid is still good. And nope, only happens when my foot is depressed on the break and I shift back into park from any gear. Almost sounds like a piece of metal is tapping another piece of metal really hard.
