Shuttering at 40mph and up

I recently purchased a 2006 grand Cherokee Laredo AWD with 120k miles. I bought it at Manheim Auto Action as a 3rd car to toy with. All seems to be ok except at exactly 40mph and up I have a pretty bad shutter when driving at a constant speed, not during acceleration or coasting. Any ideas? I know it needs a break job real bad on the rear. Could this be the issue?

Justin

Re: Shuttering at 40mph and up

After tons a reading online, it seems it maybe either the torque converter or torque converter control solenoid. I will start with the solenoid and advise.

Since no responses on this site I thought it maybe a new issue, but after reading other forums, seems pretty common.

Re: Shuttering at 40mph and up

This is what I get for staying up too late... "just one more post" I tell myself and now I cannot make myself stay up to dig around through some service information. I am REALLY busy this weekend but hopefully tomorrow ill get a little free time where I can do some digging for you.

Re: Shuttering at 40mph and up

I have an 05 4.7 with 83k and mine did this going 40-60 mph it seemed liked. I replaced my spark plugs this weekend and while I was at it I cleaned the throttle body, it was absolutely caked. I drove to work today and everything seemed great. I'm not sure if you are having the same issues but before I fixed mine it seemed to jolt, hiccup, stutter, or pause, not sure how to describe it. Good luck sir.

I know this is a late post, but there's a TSB on the shudder. Their "fix" is to raise the TC's partial lock to a higher gear/speed. Fixed it for me a while back.
