Re: smell oil burning

Have you had an oil change recently and/or checked to make sure there isn't some residual oil on the bottom skid plate?

If you take it someplace to get done, many do not take the time to drop the front skid plate or care to ensure oil doesn't splash all over when they take the filter out. This oil will often make its way back and splash onto the exhaust.

Any visible drops of oil in the driveway?

Are you sure it is oil and not another fluid burning up?

Re: smell oil burning

Did you ever figure this out? I changed my oil 2 months ago and now over the last couple days I have been getting a burnt oil smell through the vents, but only at idle I smell it. No drops anywhere. I really think the engine is emitting this smell, and my hearer is just sucking it all in. I just returned the car to stock and about ready to take it to a dealership. Any ideas?

I already have a catch can. What's a pic filter? Dealer told me I had to uninstall my catch can and my cai before they would investigate my problem. Seems it started when I changed to synthetic oil.

I only got 6000 miles my engine.. Like I said, I had the catch can almost from day one and not sure if catch can or pcv valve is the issue I'm having.

Re: smell oil burning

Have had the oils smell on idle through the vents too. No leaks anywhere and the car is a week old. The problem was there was residue power steering fluid around the powers steering container which is near the vent inlet. Cleaned it thoroughly an no more smell.
