So this happened

I had a piece of the hose that holds the silencer to the throttle body break off and got stuck in the butterfly for the tb. The throttle body warning light came on and jeep went into limp mode. Very dangerous and could have caused major damage. Dealer said he had seen it before also. The bottom of hose gets brittle form excessivee heat on the 5.7 wk's.

Re: So this happened

Pick up an SRT intake tube and do away with the "silencer" and you won't have that problem.

Have any links to where I can get one? Searched and can't find one. I've also looked in the srt forum for someone selling theirs

Re: So this happened

if you can't find one on any of the SRT forums or on ebay, you may have to try a dealer. I have both a Hemi LX and a Hemi WK and I had an extra LX SRT tube laying around and made mine for the WK using it. It needs to be extended by about 3-4 in. though, which was easy using Home Depot stuff. I also modified the LX SRT airbox too and used it. Here's a pix of my setup.

What about the sensor? Did you have any problems with that?

Re: So this happened

If you can't find a used SRT tube, you can always go with the Airaid Intake Tube.

310-970 - AIRAID , AIRAID Modular Intake Tube

No, no problem with the IAT Sensor. I just put a hole in the extension for it to fit through. I also added the longer 392 Challenger IAT Sensor which samples air from the middle of the tube, unlike the stock one that samples air from near the outer edge of the tube. If interested, the Chrysler part number for it is, 5149279AB. You'll need to make sure you have the gray plug though (generally 06 and later) for it to mate up with the Challenger Sensor.

If you can't find any other options, this is also a great way to go. It is a little more expensive, but I understand they're really nice and it does do away with the crappy silencer.

Re: So this happened

I prefer the stock intake as you get the best low end /mid range torque and tip in throttle response, plus it is very quiet, particulary with MDS on. CAI on a stock 5.7 makes it drive worse. IF you have headers / SRT mani's they will help some but I did direct comparison with AFE II and stock intake, with and without ported TB, reset ECU, drove for 2 weeks each time. Stock intake with Fram extra paper filter was far better overall. I do like the extended temp sensor from the challenger; seems to have made a difference, particularly in hot weather.
