I'm hoping my JG brothers can help me out. I was changing my spark plugs and I got to the last coil pack on the drivers side bank, when I was lifting up on the coil pack trying to get the coils out, one of the sides (coil) got stuck in the hole but the top of it popped off with the other side. I'm hoping somebody who knows what i'm talking about will chime in here (sorry I wasn't able to take any pics). Any suggestions on how to remove the coil that is stuck in the hole???

I've got a 2005 HEMI - I was going to change the plugs today - Kinda wierd you were doing the same. I dont know about the boot deal. I've yet to pull a coil off -- I'm kinda hesitant 'cause I've never done it before. I've changed a gazillion plugs built a few engines etc etc but never with a coil or coil pack. I was about to do a search or post a question on how to deal with the coils. Did you do a search on it?

This thread might be helpful also.
http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_sparkplugs.htm Look in the section for the 5.7L, very informative and detailed. Good luck with the install. I have not "been" there yet, but will probably agonize also when changing the plugs out. Excellent though, that the forums here are very helpful and members are willing to step up for other members in need!@!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

This is the best, by far, Web Site on the web. Between jeepgarage.org (here) and wkjeeps.com - THE BEST.

It's funny, I have '93 Ford COBRA as a toy. Listen to this. You would think it'd be pretty easy to find a good site with the same kind of info - I mean a mustang for crying out loud- You cant. Dont get me wrong There are good sites out there but you have to have 5 or 6 sites in your favorites to equal what you can get here and wk -

I've never tried this, but was trying to think of a safe tool (and start the jokes.... :)) This came to mind - a vegetable carving tool - somewhat of a curved spoon. Maybe an option?

It could help separate the boot from the plug wall. Dont think it'll help with debris that may fall down.......just shootin in the dark here :)

And yes I did check my drawers to see if I had one of these laying around haha, I would have tried it if I did!

I'd pull the spring, spray some lube and use an awl or a very skinny screwdriver to break the seal to/with the plug. then pull with a pliers. It has to come out, even if you have to replace it,right?

P.S. use extra lube on it when you put the new ones in

What a nightmare, turns out four boots got stuck. After searching the web, I found that O'Reilly carries just the rubber boots, you don't have to buy the whole coil pack. So I picked up four of them. I still didn't know how to take them out, but heeding 4.whoa's advice, I found that removing the spring and then sticking needle nose pliers through the middle worked like a charm .. Thanks for all the input guys, hopefully nobody else runs into this issue!!

I just changed all the plugs on my '05 - It went easy - but I prayed. The lord answered. I took it for a test spin and I can feel right off that the "lag" that had been present was gone - and I mean GONE. What a difference.

One other thing I dont know what to make of it. ONE of my plugs had oil on it and and pretty bad too. It was up on the ceramic part and on the threads a little too but I dont know if it got there from pulling the plug out.

I pulled a flash light out and there was some oil sorta on the 'lip' down inside the head. It was under the 2nd cylinder back drivers side the one with the coil.
There is no oil on the coil or on the outside of the boot. Cracked head? maybe? Crazy wierd.

I have been getting a little black smoke and 'mis' the last two times I started it up like it was running a little rough. I figured bad plugs. They were original with 70K miles. The Jeep runs awesome other than the smoke the last few times and when you get the smoke it was sorta like it had a 'mis' but it would go away within a few seconds. Isnt black smoke GAS?? Tonight when I started it up with the new plugs there was no 'mis' or smoke- Anybody got an idea? Cracked head bad valve? Why was the oil on the CERAMIC? the plug did look fouled too though... any ideas?
