Talking spark plugs

using recommended spark plugs in my 5.7 I have heard different things about switching to platinum plug my son did over 1 year ago no issues in his hemi charger , I would like to put them in my hemi grand Cherokee, I cant think the police package chargers are running standard plugs with the heat ,idle and hell they go through , recommendation????? I don't see police garages doing these plugs every year with the amount of miles they put on.

Re: spark plugs

Maybe the police package uses 6.1 coils. Then platinums would work. Personally, I use NGK coppers in both my Hemi's. I've tried platinums in my LX, using SOS high output coils, and they worked OK, but the idle wasn't quite as nice as with the coppers. I ran them for only 1400 miles though. I'd stay away from iridiums though, as you're more likely to misfire problems with them. Also, the plugs are a lot easier to change on the LX vehicles than they are on the WK's.

Bottom line, if you drive a ton of miles, give the platinums a try, but I'd narrow the gaps ~3-5 thousands to make sure you don't get any misfire. If you decide to go with coppers, FWIW, I use NGK LZTR4A-11, Stock No. 5306 in both of mine and have never had a hint of a problem.

Re: spark plugs

Stick with Copper. I'll stay with Champion plugs, made in the USA by Federal Mogul, and used in more race cars than any other plug manufacturer, including NHRA and F1. They also developed Iridium plugs.

Re: spark plugs

Installed the 9055 Champion Iridiums in my 2011 5.7L. Changed them after 60,000 and they looked like new and the gap was unchanged. Installed another set of 9055's plan on them lasting after I trade it in a few years. Have been a Champion beliver and user since the 60's.
