Re: "Squeaky" Sound coming from front suspension

Having similar problems to those discussed in previous posts.

Getting a squeaking/whining that I can best describe as similar to the sound a rusty swing makes.

In the past week the sound has happened when I:

1) Am stopped and turn the wheel back and forth
2) Push down on the front bumper above the wheel
3) Go over bumps of any size
4) Let my foot off the brake to start in motion

It doesn't consistently do it on any of these occassions however.

There are 5+ diagnoses listed above, and I wouldn't know one from the other.

I am afraid I won't be able to replicate for a mechanic, and even if I could, that they wouldn't attempt to save me some money if it's possible.

Any suggestions? Or diagrams referring to all these parts mentioned above.

Thanks.

Re: "Squeaky" Sound coming from front suspension

It's the front sway bar bushings. Cheap and easy to replace.

Re: "Squeaky" Sound coming from front suspension

Honestly, ALL the suspension bushings are susceptible to squeaking. Best bet is to have some wd40 on hand. When you notice squeaks, begin hitting certain areas (one at a time) with it. If it stops then its a safe bet that whichever bushing you lubed is the cause.

Either that or you place the trial/error game and swap em till its gone but thats gets costly and can be useless as sometimes it may be something beyond the bushing realm. Springs/struts can squeak as well so check them out.

Observe the sound more and more and record the conditions and symptoms, is it only after driving for a while? Is it bumps only, is it random? Most times the squeaking will be consistent in some regard so this is odd if it isnt predictable?

Just got home from work and I noticed the sound was pretty consistent the whole way home.

I read about there being two different sizes for 05. The dealer could not tell me which size I had based on the VIN.

Can you buy the bushings aftermarket? If I have the 30 sway do they make bushings for that size or do I have to get the 33 bushings and new brackets as well regardless of my size?

If I can find these things I'll shoot some WD-40 on them and see what happens. Where are they and what is needed to remove them?

Thanks everyone.

Re: "Squeaky" Sound coming from front suspension

If you have the 30mm, you only need the bushings. If you have the 33mm, you need the brackets also.

I'm assuming the 33mm was the first size and then they switch to 30mm later in production which is why you would need to buy the new style brackets if you have the 33mm. I'm not sure.

Re: "Squeaky" Sound coming from front suspension

I'm having the same issue and have narrowed it down to either a bad strut or the bump stop. Ugh...it's driving me CRAZY

Re: "Squeaky" Sound coming from front suspension

Oh yea, I forgot to ask. If it is my sway bushings, how urgent is it that they be fixed. Was planning a road trip this weekend.

I've got the squeak too. Gonna change the sway bushings after the weekend. Should prolly get a rear SRT sway n bushings while I'm at it! How hard is it to change the front bushings?

Does anyone know which replaced the other for sure. J4J says:

*The 2005 WK Grand Cherokee had 2 different size sway bars, 30mm and 33mm.
*The 2005 and 2006 WK Grand Cherokees with the 33mm bar requires that you to replace the old sway bar bushing mounting brackets with Item # 52090474AB because of the new bushing design.
For item # 52090474AB see below.
The 2007-2010 WK Grand Cherokees can only use the 52089465AF bushings.

These bushings will not fit on the SRT8 Sway Bar.

Item # 52089465AC - 05 Grand Cherokee with 30mm bar.

Item # 52089465AF - 05-10 Grand Cherokee with 33mm bar.

This description agrees with what 2for3 said about it changing from 33 to 30. But then it also says that the bushings that coincide with the 33mm bar are the surviving part number. Doesn't make sense.

Re: "Squeaky" Sound coming from front suspension

The 30mm ends with "AC".

The 33mm ends with "AF".

The part number ending with "AF" would be the newer part........hmmmmm. WTF?
