Re: Starting issue doesn't start after 2nd start up (video)

Just got back from looking at the jeep. I took a flathead to the valve during the no start and it misted out a little bit. It wasn't forceful and it stopped every time my gf held the key while it was trying to crank. It wasn't a consistent spray meaning it sprayed then stopped and I would have to let go and press it on again. That was my first time doing that so I'm not sure if that's normal

Re: Starting issue doesn't start after 2nd start up (video)

i am very interested in your problem as my WK is doing the same thing. starts fine cold but after some driving it might not, but sometimes it will. acts like a fuel issue and turning the key off then starting 2 or 3 times it usually starts. never has not started. changed the fuel relay didnt help. diagnositc are fine. of course it never acts up when being analyzed. i read the forum speaking of changing the fuel pump but i want to know before i spend the money. i have a guy here that specializes in computer related issues and will take it to him for analysis when it acts up during the day and will definately post what the problem turns out to be. if you find a solution please do the same.
one thing this guy mentioned was the fuel filter, in the tank of course. but he said the tank might be building up too much pressure and when it does it pop the fuel cap and release the pressure. havent tried that yet. seems like excess pressure would add fuel(?)

Re: Starting issue doesn't start after 2nd start up (video)

i was actually reading something today about to much fuel. called flooded the engine (I'm sure theres other terminology) but when theres to much air/fuel or something. Im very active on these forums so definitely keep in touch. about the fuel pump.. thats what the other member said on the other site saying it fixed the problem. My father is going to hook up a gauge on my dash to see the pressure when its in the no start.

Re: Starting issue doesn't start after 2nd start up (video)

Has anyone thought it can be the TPS sensor ? (Throttle position sensor). I've replaced the IAC sensor obviously didn't fix anything. But I've been reading on how it sends a signal to the PCM. Then it'll show how much fuel you'll need in order to start.. Maybe it's a bad sensor. Maybe that's why I spray gum cutter down the TB it starts ?? I believe there was a recall for TPS for 2011+ jeeps for a no start clicking ? Not to sure just throwing out some ideas

Re: Starting issue doesn't start after 2nd start up (video)

Got my hands on a kit tonight hooked it up and tested it.. So I got while the key was in the on position so where all the lights up it was at 42psi. Turned the key didn't start and it read 40psi. Did it again read 38-40psi then last time. GF gave it some gas went to 36-38 psi it's all in the video. During the 3 times I filmed the truck did not start up. When i got it running the psi was at 55 which is normal let me know what you guys think

Here's the link for the video

Re: Starting issue doesn't start after 2nd start up (video)

The fuel pressure should not be the reason for your problem. It could however happen that the fuel returns to the tank after shutdown due to an internal leak inside the tank and that you need a bit of time to get this air out again during the next start.
I did mention the TPS some days ago as well, especially after you mentioned the sudden rpm rise at the refuel station. Could well be a TPS problem.

Re: Starting issue doesn't start after 2nd start up (video)

FUEL PUMP FIXED IT !!!

Pump from the dealership was only $204 while NAPA was $245. All in all cost me $300 (my mechanic doesn't charge me for parts only labor expensive) the only thing it does which I can care less is it has a slight hesitation before it starts. Barley unrecognizable literally a milasecond. So I guess it fixed !!

I've tested to make sure it's fixed

Yesterday after my mechanic fixed it. He drove it around town probably for 5 min only shut it off. I came picked it up. Drove 30 min on the highway. Shut it off waited 15 min STARTED. Let it sit for 20 min drove it around a couple blocks. Let it sit for 15 min. STARTED.

Today 1st start drove it 15 min to the inspection station to get inspected. Waited in line for 10 min. First pit had to shut the truck off. Guy came 2 min later started it up. STARTED next stop was the computer station. Let it idle for 2 min passed of course.. Next was the sticker. Guy told me to shut it off. Turned it back on 2 min later STARTED. Drove home got into town and went to the bank. Shut it off. Came back maybe 5-7 min later.STARTED. Drove it to get lunch waited about 15-20 min STARTED. So today alone has about 5 starts so I'm guessing it's fixed.

Mechanic said it wasn't hard at all changing it out. I wasted the gas in the tank for him so it had zero miles on the dash lol. Took him hour n half maybe. Thanks for your guys help !!

Re: Starting issue doesn't start after 2nd start up (video)

This is starting to happen more and more in my '08 3.7 with 123k.

It would start, but the engine would stutter really bad until I shut it off. The only way I can get it to start aside from waiting is to have the accelerator depressed a very little bit while turning the key. It never fails to get it to start. Only happens after driving for some period of time (had it happen after a short trip, and after 50+ miles on the highway) and doesn't happen every time.

I think we have a lifetime warranty. Need to find the papers from 5 years ago. If not, how difficult is it to swap the fuel pump?

There's a vid on youtube of a '05 with it's tank out. I'm hoping I can apply this generally to my '08. Can't imagine the design is too different. Just waiting for a warm weekend where the wife doesn't have us driving around everywhere.

Just tell the wife that the jeep can stop working at any time, and she will be happy to give you all the time you need.
