Starting issue doesn't start after 2nd start up (video)

After about 15 to 20 minutes of driving you shut the car off you turn it back on and it won't start. I tried again and it tries to turnover shakes a bit dies. Try to start it again nothing. You wait about 25-30 min starts up with no problem. I bought the car during the summer and I immediately change the oil change the transmission fluid at the dealership Clean pan and filter coils plugs all the fluids changed all new hoses. Truck has 125k. There's only a couple of people on other jeep forms that have the same problem and there is no solution so far. My mechanic said he has no idea it can be 1 million things. I've been going to him for 20 years family friend. I brought it to my friend that knows jeeps and he said he doesn't know either. I believe it is the fuel pump along with my father that's been around racecars and build them. I really can't afford to replace things that I know that's not going to fix them so I've been waiting. My mechanic tested the fuel pump. It has the right pressure. Even when the problem was happening he put it on and it said that it didn't have pressure but it started up something strange like that. I've taken a video of the shake hopefully someone has the fix for this !! Thanks guys !!

Btw no check engine light my mechanic scan the whole entire car and has no codes at all. Another member on A jeep fourm posted saying about how he replaced his fuel pump and no more problems he has but I'm not too sure how true that is. Also during one time when I was getting gas and the car was running all of a sudden the RPMs just went up like I hit the gas but I didn't. I'm not sure what that can be something with the fuel pump ?

Re: Starting issue doesn't start after 2nd start up (video)

Welcome to the garage.
Which engine you have? Does it crank over normally when it doesn´t start, or is it cranking slowly?
So it always starts normally at cold start, but not after being warmed up? If so, i would put my bet on the crank position sensor.
Also a possibility is the coolant temp sensor or inlet temp sensor. If it doesn´t start, do you smell fuel from the exhaust? A scanner with live data will show both temperatures, just to see if they are way out of normal indication.

Thank you, 3.7L v6.. it doesn't fully start it studders it tries to start then shuts off. When I say hot start I mean after the the car has been running. Say i start it up first start of the day I drive around the block and shut it off. There's a good chance it'll start right after I shut it off. But I drive back home or drive around and try it again it won't. Usually first start its fine 2,3 etc won't start. I don't smell any exhaust or fuel smells. When it's in that "mode" and I try to start if I put the pedal to the floor and almost feels like the car is about to run out of gas. You get like 3 bogging , and then it shuts off. That's only if you put the pedal to the floor

Re: Starting issue doesn't start after 2nd start up (video)

The crank position sensor is well known to cause problems like this, sometimes with a fault code, but also many times without.
I won´t expect the fuel pump, but if it won´t start, you could try to press the schräder valve on the fuel rail and see if fuel under pressure comes out. Use a rag to catch the fuel, to prevent a fire. If fuel is there under pressure, i would change the crank position sensor first.

Okay. Gonna tell my mechanic to change the crank position sensor. I think it's relatively cheap. I'll keep you guys posted

I replaced mine, and honestly, the hardest part was getting it unplugged
So you could easily do it on your own. Mine is an 05 5.7. Not sure if that changes a lot compared to your v6

I´m almost sure that the 3.7L is the same as the 4.7L, and that the starter motor must be removed to get access to the crank position sensor.

Okay. I wasn't sure. I just remember how easy it was for me😂 and didn't want him to waste money if he could've done it on his own

Re: Starting issue doesn't start after 2nd start up (video)

Its not difficult to remove the starter motor, just two wires and two bolts (17mm head) (don´t forget to disconnect the negative battery terminal first, to prevent any short). The crank sensor itself is just one connector and one bolt holding it in place.

Alright cool thanks guys ! I need a oil change and I refuse to change my oil in the winter time. Rather pay $20 bucks and get the sensor at the same time

Re: Starting issue doesn't start after 2nd start up (video)

I bought the sensor and put it on my friends lift. We were trying to remove the sensor and it's rusted in the block. Can't twist it or bend it, definitely don't want it to break it in the block. Any suggestions ?? take a wrench to it and all it's doing is flexing the plastic when your twisting it

Re: Starting issue doesn't start after 2nd start up (video)

There is an O´ring around the base of the sensor, which when dry, makes it difficult to remove the sensor (besides eventual corrosion of the bore). Just spray it with some lubricant (WD40 or alike) and let it penetrate for some time. If you have the old sensor out, clean well the bore before installing the new sensor.
