leak down test?
?? so you did or did not run it? you do not need to change plugs after seafoaming. put the seafoam in steadily and when it starts to smoke, pour faster and try to stall the engine with it. then wait about 15min and crank her up.Keep your windows shut! it might sputter a bit @ first. give it light throttle till it clears up then drive it. I keep it in a lower gear so the rpms rise. it'll burn out some crap dont worry too much about putting in 1/2 or 1/3 can, not a big deal, i usually run 1/2 to 3/4 but its more important to get results then to use just so much. whatevers left, add to the gas tank.

Re: still getting a misfire.. why?

Ill be doing that this weekend then. I haven't seafoamed it in probably 30k, so maybe it is due for a seafoaming.

Re: still getting a misfire.. why?

As suggested, I too would suspect mechanical issue, leakdown of the cylinder with a leakdown tester would be the way to go. You could try seafoam, to try to clean carbon issues, but dont hold your breath... you may get lucky, but the odds are not in your favor.

Where do you get your gas? Ass-gas? Arco, space age, am-pm? Use ONLY top tier fuel, if you dont know what fuel is top tier WIKI it or GOOGLE it. If you use crappy fuel you can likely count on carbon buildup as your problem.

Re: still getting a misfire.. why?

most of my daily driving is just across town. I seafoam it every 4-6 wks and get a good bit of crap out.

Re: still getting a misfire.. why?

Looks like ill look into the leak down test after the seafoam. I usually fill up at shell or giant, which is shell fuels. No cheap fuel goes in her. Do I just tell my mechanic to perform a leak down test?

I agree with this statement big time, although there is no such thing as top tier fuel stations anymore. All of the big time oil companies have to meet regulations now. Shell by far has the best gas around.

Yeah, tell him what you've done so far though. I really think its a valve sealing issue.

I had a 3.6L gm motor have a slight chug at 45mph.. Picking up a slight misfire on 3. Swapped plugs and coils. Still on 3. GM offers a top engine cleaner that you can actualy pour down spark plug holes. It frees up rings, but I used it to correct valve sealing against the head also. Do the leakdown test, remove intake and while your performing the leakdown pour the top engine cleaner down the runner of the affected cylinder (on top of the valves). If the valve is leaking, you'll see the engine cleaner bubbling. Let sit for 2hrs and blow out the runner with compressed air. Then drive the crap out of it. It works. Saved me on a few occasions.

Also after you do that, see if he offers a fuel treatment (Fuel Induction Service) for you vehicle. (Welcome to BG Products, Inc.) You can actualy run a appratus right to your fuel pressuer test port and clean the injectors big time. They also offer a great throttle body cleaner that can be used in the apparatus as a spray. Do some research on that site. I use their products on my jeep like crazy. Its pricey, all of my axles are done and i use their syn trans fluid. I do the fuel induction every 20k.

Re: still getting a misfire.. why?

threw some premium gas in it last night, doing the seafoam through the brake booster after work today. talked to a jeep tech thats been working on my jeeps since 2004- he said to watch my coolant level as it could possibly be leaking into the cylinder or its possibly a sticky valve or guide may be sloppy.

Does it smoke at all at startup? White smoke??

Cold start with a higher ambient temp of course.

Sounds like a blown headgasket. Is it on the exhaust side or intake? You know the 08 4.7 had 16 plugs right?
