Re: Strange gear on my commander

As was mentioned previously, the change in the shift pattern may just be the transmission using a different set of shift-points until it is warmed up.

Hopefully someone with this (NAG1) transmission can confirm - but I know an altered shift pattern on the 545rfe is normal in cold weather.

As for the "shaking" at stop, what are the RPMs at that time? It could simply be that the idle speed is too low for one reason or another.

Of course...it could also be the ground trembling under all that torque the diesel puts out

Re: Strange gear on my commander

but i have a technical question: why when i turn the engine on and is cold the rpm are higher than normally? around 1000, than when the car is normal again back to 500/700 without pressing the gas.
thanks

Re: Strange gear on my commander

The engine revs higher when cold to warm it up faster and prevent it from stalling.

It's the same as with an older vehicle where on a the first start of the morning you may have to idle it with your foot on the gas a little to prevent it from cutting out (or if you were in real cold climate, run it with one foot on the brake on one on the accelerator to prevent it from cutting out at stop signs!)

Most new cars have a cold engine mode (CEM) that is utilized when the coolant temperature/air temperature is below a certain set-point.

Once the coolant warms up, it goes back into a normal operating schedule.
