Strange gear on my commander

Hi guys,
I have a jeep commander 2007crd and when out is cold ( like -3 celsius) i turn on the car, iwait a little to make the engine warm but then if i put the R i haveto press the gas until the car reach 2500 3000 rpm to move.
Is it normal?
Thanks a lot

Re: Strange gear on my commander

Sorry to hear that buddy, hope its not tranny related. Funny thing is the more time I spend with my Jeep the more quirks I discover.

Yeah the 545rfe for the transmission if I'm not mistaken. As far as our vehicles go from what I've read they are closely related, whatever applies to the WK also applies for the commander and vice versa. From the pic, she is a beauty. Good luck with that bro, my Jeep is driving me crazy with all the quirks that it gets.

Re: Strange gear on my commander

I've also read that Jeeps don't like really cold weather, mine got a strange noise the other day when I first turned her on in the morning after it was sitting out all night in 13 degree weather but felt like 0 degrees.

Re: Strange gear on my commander

yes the545rfe is known for that in the chargers. i had a lot of experience with that problem. in the ne weather up here it gets cold your best bet is to give it a good 15 min warm up time if possible

Re: Strange gear on my commander

Its the NAG1 - W5A580 transmission behind the 3.0l diesel... off the top of my head nothing comes to mind for you concern, I would suggest verifying your fluid level (not sure if you have a dipstick on yours, may have to go to the dealer or buy a dipstick).

Thinking about it, there may be some cold shift strategy to help the trans warm up quicker that may be causing your concern, in which case it would be perfectly normal,

Re: Strange gear on my commander

ya sure i ll check the levels of the fluids! but is so strange because was not soo cold and all the time i warm it up until the rpm goes to 700-800 at minimum.
ya actually is true that the jeep ( or mine) doesn't like cold weather.
is not the first time i had problem with the transmission.. i already stop the car for 1 month because noone was able to find my problem...
btw in the city with normal tem (5-7 celsius) i dont have any prob!!
there is any specific oil for the winter???
thanks

Re: Strange gear on my commander

And of course verify the quality of the fluid, does it smell burnt? Color, any type of particles in the fluid. Are you using the correct fluid for your tranny, I've also noticed when I switched to a full synthetic brand of atf fluid my Jeep shifts smoother, it could just be me but it's something to think about.
