Strange-MIL is constant and now ETC light comes on with message "Check Gauges"

Truck is Limited 5.7 with 83K+ miles and all service is up to date. Wife drives the vehicle and informs me of events that include ETC light coming on and disappearing-repeated twice on two separate short driving events-less than 5 miles. I start the Jeep at home and do not have any EVIC information and the key dance for codes does not work on my 2005 WK-Sux. In either case, temperature has been around 5 F and I am suspecting an old worn out battery? On a Sunday, difficult to have load tested. I assume that the battery is original so I might start there? Other approaches that I might take? Thanks to all.

If it's the original battery replace it.
That and I would check the Throttlebody electrical connections for condensation and/or corrosion.

I would start with verifying the condition of the battery as stated, What your describing sounds like communication failure which would be basically impossible to diagnose over the interwebz... hopefully a battery (if it needs it) will resolve your concerns.

Update. Reset the PCM with a disconnect of the neg. cable for a total of 45 minutes. When I decided to remove the negative cable, I noticed that the connection was not tight. Cleaned the battery terminal and re-tightened the neg. ground. No further problems to report and Jeep is running great-better than when first purchased. I do intend to have the battery load tested though. I do not consider myself to be totally out of the woods yet. Thanks for the suggestions.
