Went trail riding today now I cant get my 2005 GC out of 4wd lo. Tried low speed shifting, neutral shifting, hard stops, backing nothing worked. Service 4wd System light is on also. Cant hear the transfer case motor engaging. Would welcome any troubleshooting ideas. 98.5 mile tow good thing I've got AAA.
Had same problem with 2 other makes of vehicle & found out the front wheels had to be pointing perfectly straight in front, or we could not get out of 4WD low range.
Hope this may be of assistance to you. Good luck with it.
Regards, John
I recently had a situation in my 2013 Jeep GC V6 4WD Overland... my 4WD Low engaged at a carwash (not intentionally, perhaps accidental push of the 4WD low button), and I could not get it disengaged for a few days. I did drive perhaps 10-15 miles on-road in 4WD low in order to get home. Based on an on-line advice search, I disconnected the battery for 30-45 minutes and followed the owner's manual for dis-engaging 4WD Low instructions and the system worked as designed, and disengaged itself. So, in my case, I am not sure what the silver bullet was... disconnecting the battery or following the darn instructions, but after doing both, my system worked as designed.
