Re: Sunroof drains - Where do they drain under?

Our '04 grand cherokee has just started leaking with water coming in at the top of the left post. We may try unclogging ourselves, but the sunroof isn't perfectly flush- it's sitting low at the back side around 1/8" below flush. I assume it will have to be recalibrated? Is this something we can do or will we have to take it in to the dealership to get this thing reset? This is the reason I really don't like having a sunroof!

I unclogged them once with weed wacker line. They worked okay and it didn't leak for a while. When I cleaned it the first time I knocked lose a bunch of compost looking twigs and dirt from where the water was dripping.

We are having moderate to heavy rain in NY and water is leaking everywhere. I opened the sunroof and saw the drip tray was completely full. It's really embarrassing driving with this water dripping after every turn.

Can someone explain to me where the drains vent to? I would like to make sure this area is free of debris and blow air up towards the roof rather than down into this hidden area.

I have a 2005 WK and have experienced the same problem. Water leaking from the A-Pillers, all the way down to the hood release (on the driver side), and the sunroof tray was full. This past summer I finally had enough and attacked it myself, with very successful results.

Step 1: Pop open the two plastic covers on the A-Pillers to reveal two bolts
Step 2: with a socket wrench (forgot the size but it was included in my standerd set) unscrew both bolts.
Step 3: Pull of the A-Piller to reveal a cheap black tube leading from the sunroof-tray drains, down to the exit holes near the back of the front wheel wells.
Step 4: Depending on the severity of your clog additional methods may be necessary. I took a bleach/water solution and ran in through the tubes a few times. I found flicking the tube and removing it from the plastic clips helps break up the clogs.
Step 5: Enjoy your leak free Jeep!

Re: Sunroof drains - Where do they drain under?

so i got a leak now just started today, coming from the upper console

everyone talks about leaks in the A pillar which makes sense due to where the drains go, but why out the upper console?

i havent used my sunroof in like 6 months and i NEVER park under tree's
could it be the windsheild weather strip?

Re: Sunroof drains - Where do they drain under?

Hey everyone, so we have been having some snow and very cold nights here in Denver this week, and lucky me, my WK starts leaking. Its the same symptoms as everyone else. Leaking from roof map lights and both A-pillars. I took it into the dealership on thursday and they said it was because either the sunroof glass had warped or the roof was bent. Both sound crazy to me. Has anyone else been told this? I would think if this was the issue i would have leaking all over the place and not just in the same areas as others with just cloggged drain pipes? Also are there any how-to's for cleaning the drain pipes? Not just the TSB's, but a good pictorial of what everything looks like and what was done? Thanks for any info!!

Re: Sunroof drains - Where do they drain under?

i pulled the over head console and saw a water line coming from the back passenger side
and i heard people talking about the roof rack leaking

so i just threw some silicone in there yesterday
so hopefully that stops my leak

try doing what i did
pull the over head console
then u can pull down the headliner enough to see where the water is coming from

Re: Sunroof drains - Where do they drain under?

I'll have to do that. Really hope it works, I can't believe this happens with these rigs. What a design flaw.

Re: Sunroof drains - Where do they drain under?

Well my leak still persist
I can't view that link on my phone and forgot to when I got to my comp
Is it for the 05-06?

My front drain tubes work like a champ, but how do u clear the rear ones???

I've pulled my c-pillar and the drain tube goes behind the metal, I can post a pic if needed

I got no problem pulling panels and the headliner
The dealer quoted me $150 just to look at it by a "water specialist"

Need help! It has gotten worse and I live on the so called "wet coast" lol

Yes the tsb says 2005, I posted it cause I think that sometimes a tsb seems to apply to other years.

Re: Sunroof drains - Where do they drain under?

Bumping this again

Went to the dealer tuesday, said its my rear tubes that are clogged
Said it was $350ish to fix or I try it myself....so here I am lol

Headliner is half down, got a wire about 3 feet into the tube then it stops
I can hear air coming out the bottom when I use my blower

Anyopne know where the rear tube is located under the jeep?
