I did not have any codes. The only reason I caught it was a thread at another forum.

May be worth a shot if you're out of ideas seeing as it was a pretty cheap fix.

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

The nag1 transmission whch is almost always in the jeeps with the 3.7L and not trailrated, is notoriouse for tranny problems WHEN NOT USING ATF+4. I would change your fluid to comply with that.

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

Not sure if it could be the sensors because jeep did fly by testing and said all sensors are working correctly.

same here... i dont feel like throwing money into a bunch of sensors that arent failing or throwing codes.

honestly- after doing all the service this weekend, jeeps running great. smooth shifting, snappy acceleration (still running the stok SCT tune, and i added the powerwire), smooth idle, etc. im not going to throw any coin out replacing each sesnor.

throwing the sonnax on today or tomorrow, and replacing my AFE filter (not that its related to anything). then ill sit back and wait for a CEL lol.

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

well i broke the tab on my stock pressure sensor so the sonnax never went on. i may try and get it to a shop to get it on but if i dont, its whatever. i did however change my tune on her to the 91 performance tune with my superchips. for the most part my shifts are on point now- she holds gears longer, and doesnt shuttle shift between 3-4. ill see how this goes for awhile.

i did reset my adaptives after installing the tune so the comp is learning the shift points, and driving habits again.

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

ok guys just an update took my car to another mechanic local guy who owns a small shop. He took it for a drive and believes i have a problem with my tranny because the pulsing and strong vibration is happening only when the Over Drive kicks in. He didnt charge me for the diagnosis (guess he felt bad) and told me to see a local transmission shop. They have booked me in for an appointment on thursday. Hoping for the best! Hope my tranny wont have to be rebuilt.

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

I've followed this thread for months. It's amazing we all had the same symptoms but the solution turns out to be a variety of different things.

My 2005 GC is now fixed. I took it in for the 60,000 mile service. They said they wanted to look into the surging and bucking after all that was done in the off chance one of the things they did would take care of it. At first, it appeared they were right. The Jeep ran perfectly for three days. I was so happy. Then...it came back. Bucking and surging horribly. I took it in and they determined it was the Throttle Position Sensor. They said it was throwing all kinds of codes. It's been 6 weeks now and it's still running great.

Interestingly, it ran horribly last summer. Then ran great all winter. And then came back this summer. Very strange. Can a Throttle Position Sensor act up intermittantly like that? I don't know.

I hope this helps some of you out there. The bucking and surging made me hate the car. Now I'm in love again.

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

I know what you mean lol I'm in a love hate relationship. Sadly I changed the Tps a while ago. Maybe due to temperature changes causing different resistance in the wires.
