Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

SO guys here is an update. got the jeep back from a local tranny shop. They said my problem was very difficult to diagnose but he came to the conclusion that the valve body in the transmission which he said is the brains of the tranny is damaged and one of the springs can be broken. This is what he said that is causing my pulsing. He quoted me a price of 1,000 to take apart the tranny flush, new fluid, and repair.

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

I am going to bring my car to the dealer to get a second opinion on the tranny problem. Then hopefully will have it fixed this week.

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

If it's the valve body, I'd get an aftermarket one. A core swap for this Sharadon one is $325. http://sharadon.com/sdparts.htm

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

That's what the tranny shop is saying. He wants 1100 bucks for everything. I'm not going to do the work myself . Kind of above my ability. I don't know if these shops will use that part.

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

Oh, right. That one from Sharadon was "bolt on." Perhaps the 3.7L ones are also?

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

2006 V6 Commander 3.7 80,454 miles

I have this issue too and have been trying to figure out a resolve before my warrantee runs out.

My issue to clarify... Between 1200 and 1600 rpms there is a pulsing. I had the dealer go for a ride with me and they had the computer hooked up to monitor. They saw that the torque convertor was giving then grabbing, giving then grabbing... Over and over. They replaced the torque convertor. They said the fluid was really burnt looking. New fluid, new torque convertor... First day driving seemed to be better. But that must have been all in my head because later that night, issue is back in full force. I did a 75k full maintenance. That didn't help. The last thing I had done was them replacing the valve body and that did not fix the issue either. Not sure where to go from here. I read a post on page 12 of this thread that seemed to detail a whole slew of things to try. I am going to give that to my dealer and tell them to go at it. I will post back.

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

Mine happens above 30 mph the torque converter locks up and opens. And I get bad vibration. I have to get a second opinion on the valve body this week before I go through with the repair. From what I have heard my problem makes sense had it for years and all sensors are working properly according to jeep. My tranny doesn't have any sensors in it apparently so that could be why I haven't been getting any codes.

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

I had this problem with a Comanche pickup straight six 4.0. I tried the trans shop, the mechanic no solutions. I was not a fan of the dealer but I called service told them the problem and they told me TPS I did not believe them so I called another dealer the next day and same answer bought the part put into about 15 minutes and thetruck was running great
