Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

Got my car back from the dealer they say there is noting wrong with the valve body. My real problem is that I need a new torque converter. They quoted me 1400 bucks.

I'm glad after years they could finally figure out what it is!

Madanio24,

I had my torque convertor replaced. They said it was in really bad shape. The fluid was all burnt. They fixed it. I drove away... Same issue. I am still trying to find out what the true fix for this is. I do not believe it to be the torque convertor. However I do believe that what ever is causing this, does damage the torque convertor. Keep us posted. I will do the same.

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

I hope it is causing the problem. If it is not I should not have to pay the bill.

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

Ok guys. We discovered the real problem with my jeep today unfortunatley. I drove the car while the tech monitored the computer and we found out that the pressure is dropping to almost 0 when the tranny shifts gears. This is making the vibration and surging. Then immediatley after I let go off the gas or press the pedal in the pressure goes up to a somewhat normal level. I need a whole transmission rebuild. I'm just glad we finally came to a conclusion

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

Damn, good in one way but a cheaper solution would have been a better out come.

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

Jeep is back together being tested all day today. The shop is trying to replace my u-joints without replacing the whole drive shaft. they are bringing it to a machine shop to do the work. Apparently the drive shaft is not serviceable yet they were able to order new ujoints for both the shafts. weird....

My Jeep has been at the shop for three weeks. I have sent them your message to have them confirm the same diagnosis. Thanks for posting.
