I wish Chrysler would fix this car for me. I do love the vehicle but hate this ongoing issue. Or maybe give me an srt for all my troubles . One can dream....
If I owned chrysler and saw all the trouble you've gone through. Dude I'd give you two. At least you're helping us all out in some way or another with your updates. Thank you for that.

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

I know this is an old post, but anything to help the community. 2004 Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7HO

The issues you've described point to the Crank Position Sensor.

Through all the hell you've been through it was only mentioned once in this whole 23 page thread, and was basically ignored. It won't always throw a code, but will cause all the symptoms descibed. FYI use Mopar not aftermarket parts for it.

Sorry if you did a $3k Trans rebuild when it could have been a $57 sensor! Good luck.

Re: Surging, pulsing while driving

Whack, for your first post let me say thanks for proposing that.

Was bs'ing with a mechanic the other night and he mentioned the hemi cam or crank sensor being fairly common issue, but he wasn't specific to surging. That being said I hadn't put two and two together because mine throws no codes.

Yeah, the Crank Position Sensors (CPS) are notorious for going bad, and then you get all kinds of Mopar goodness. When mine went bad it went from light surging, to heavy surging, to not locking up the transmission in high gear, to pulsing, to not letting the vehicle even start without a PCM clearing. It was a huge range of issues that pointed at everything but the CPS.
