T-case Service Question

Alright so my old jeep took exactly 2 quarts and drained out of the hole. Now my new jeep same everything. Took some where between 2.25 and 2.75 qts to have it drain out of the hole... Well yesterday I refilled with Amsoil I put in approx 1.8-1.9 qts but didn't come out of the hole... When you fill yours do you come out of the hole or just 1.9 qts?

Also when I refilled with Mopar and Amsoil the first time I tested 4low it went in fine (I never took it out of Neutral BTW) Then I disengaged it... Everything seemed fine but both times when I went to Reverse a few seconds after disengaging I had a slight gear clash and threw it back in N right away then proceeded back to R. Also I had my foot on the breaks the whole time so I wasnt moving... I'm thinking that was my issue because I was not moving...

Shifting Procedures:

4 HI to 4 LOW

With the vehicle at speeds of 0 to 3 mph (0 to 5 km/h), key ON or engine running, shift the transmission into N (Neutral), and raise the transfer case T-handle. "The 4WD LOW Indicator Lamp" in the instrument cluster will begin to flash and remain on solid when the shift is complete. Release the T-handle.

NOTE: If shift conditions/interlocks are not met, or a transfer case motor temperature protection condition exists, a "CHECK SHIFT PROCEDURES" message will flash from the EVIC (Electronic Vehicle Information Center).

4 LOW to 4 Hi

With the vehicle at speeds of 0 to 3 mph (0 to 5 km/h), key ON or engine running, shift the transmission into N (Neutral), and raise the transfer case T-handle. The "4WD LOW Indicator Lamp" in the instrument cluster will flash and go out when the shift is complete. Release the T-handle.

NOTE: If shift conditions/interlocks are not met, or a transfer case motor temperature protection condition exists, a "CHECK SHIFT PROCEDURES" message will flash from the EVIC.

NOTE: Shifting into or out of 4WD LOW is possible with the vehicle completely stopped, however difficulty may occur due to the mating clutch teeth not being properly aligned. Several attempts may be required for clutch teeth alignment and shift completion to occur. The preferred method is with the vehicle rolling 0 to 3 mph (0 to 5 km/h). If the vehicle is moving faster than 3 mph (5 km/h), the transfer case will not allow the shift.

Re: T-case Service Question

I eventually got 2 qts into mine and it did not come out of the hole but I had the rear up on ramps to get more fluid in because of the problem I had a few days earlier. (Remember you tried to help me out with that one?) The spec calls for 1.9qts so it sounds like its full.
Could it be that the truck was not on level ground?

Re: T-case Service Question

Just did mine last week with 2 qts. of Mopar fluid. Although I spilled a bit (maybe an ounce or 2) trying to get the bottle/pump positioned, mine never overflowed out of the fill hole. The specs on the procedure calls for 60.8 oz out of the 64 oz. you get from the two bottles or top of the fill hill (oozing out). I stuck my finger in after I had squeezed every last drop in and it still didn't feel like it was up to the fill line. I'm almost positive I got 60.8+ oz. in there despite spilling some so i don't know what to think.

I too tested the 4Lo and got a clunk when shifting back into reverse after disengaging that I didn't get when I tested a day earlier after doing the diffs, which did overflow with the M1 fluid. The 4LO seemed to shift in and out fine though.

Yea bro I remember helping you out with that one. I made sure I was on level ground and everything else was good. I am just looking for other peoples experiences.

Yea alright sweet. At least I'm not the only one where it didn't ooze out.

Re: T-case Service Question

I did my t case a week ago with 2qt of Mopar fluid and it never did ooze out but when I put my finger in I could feel the fluid maybe 1/8" to 1/4" below the fill hole.

Re: T-case Service Question

Did anyone have a problem with that metal line/tube being in the way when trying to loosen the fill cap?

I was planning on using these and it's more of a pain than I'd hoped.

Re: T-case Service Question

I did mine last weekend, and I did not have any metal tubes in the way. Just the gas tank was close, but i was still able to get my 10mm socket in there no problem.
