ticking noise

Whenever I start my jeep there's a light ticking noise coming from somewhere on the drivers side. sometimes it sounds like its coming from the wheel or somewhere around that area under the hood. I have an 05 4.L. Anyone have any idea what it could be? I've searched and searched and so far I've gotten exhaust manifold gasket or brushing. If I can I'm gonna record the sound and post it

Also it mainly does it whenever I first start up and am just sitting. Then I think it goes away after ive been driving a while and have gotten above 25 mph in my neighborhood

Oh and does anyone know a way to check your brake pads without having to take the wheel off and everything? Never had to really do that before but now that im in college with no job im tryin to do all this on my own without paying as much haha

If you can reach the squealer on your pads and see if it is flush to the disc...there will be a minor difference in feel but I would just pull the wheel and turn it so you can see the gap between the top and bottom of the pad

Re: ticking noise

Depending on your wheel construction, you may be able to see the front pads by turning sharply as you park.

As for the ticking noise, see if it is coming from a largish box on the drivers side just behind the radiator. Its part of the emissions control system and makes a rather prominent ticking noise as you start and it purges.

Could be a noisy lifter, but if you open the hood you may be able to spot the difference.
